A good wireless microphone would cost about $600. The signal can only travel so far. If for whatever reason it can't travel from the referee to the press box, then they can spend about another $100 to put a transceiver on the field level to amplify the signal. It would take about 10 minutes to set up.hammb wrote: 2. We were making fun of this joke all game long. We were chatting about how bad the mic was on the ref...they were appalled that this has been an ongoing issue for so long. I really want to know how much a decent wireless mic costs nowadays, because I'd be willing to put money towards it. NO, it doesn't mean a hill of beans in the grand scheme, but much like the concessions issue it REEKS of low class and unprofessional. It shouldn't be asking that much to get a decent freaking microphone.

That's kinda what I was thinking. So for less than $1000 we could probably set up a simple, workable, solution? Shouldn't be asking THAT much to do so!musicman2343 wrote:A good wireless microphone would cost about $600. The signal can only travel so far. Sigh...but nope.
I know people think I complain just to complain, but this department cuts so many corners in so many places that it's no wonder why people don't come out to the games. I realize our budget is tight, but if it's so tight that we can't get a working microphone then we should consider dropping football entirely...
And musicman: Was nice to meet ya yesterday, hope you can become a regular at our tailgates!
Re: Game day at the Doyt...
Generally lousy teams? I count two losing seasons in the last decade. I wonder what the description would be at Kent or Eastern Michigan.hammb wrote: Overall, I love this team, but the gameday experience BLOWS. Between the horrid scheduling, the piss poor gameday experience, and the generally lousy teams over the years we should really be happy that we have any fans showing up to games.
I agree that the gameday experience blows at Doyt Perry Stadium and the fans are the reason. There is plenty of empirical evidence that crowd noise or excitement is transferable to positive team performance. There has to be some correlation because coaches and players motion for support at every football and basketball venue at all levels of competition.
But people who go to the games- not just at BG, but in the MAC in general- just don't seem to care. Certain games in the Meyer and early-Brandon eras would be exceptions. It's sad that I should question whether I am right in standing and cheering before a third down snap.
I doubt the atmosphere would change if the concession stands were gourmet, the referee was equipped with a bullhorn, or all the pennants were displayed correctly.
Re: Game day at the Doyt...
First - it was great seeing old friends and meeting new at the tailgate.
We agreed - the screech, while novel, is really irritating.
Anyone explain why you wouldn't have the Stroh open during the game when it's parent's weekend. Hopefully it will be open during homecoming.

All this cutting corners is just costing the University $ in the long run. Spend the money to create a good game atmosphere and put a winning product on the field and you will build attendance. Serve people nasty overpriced food long enough they will stop buying it and tell everyone they know to stop buying it.

Re: Game day at the Doyt...
12 isn't a great start time, I had to go into the lab about 5:30am so I could finish my work and get on the road by 9:30. Unfortunately we just couldn't get down there to tailgate in time. Wish I could have gotten over there to talk to you Tech.
Otherwise I thought it was a great day for football, outside the outcome, I enjoyed the game. Thought the food (brat) I had was pretty tasty. Liked being able to have a beer during the game, since I didn't have one before had.
Hopefully we'll make it back for homecoming.

You should go to a Penn St. game sometime and listen to the "lion" snarl after each 1st down...MUCH louder!

Mostly meant that in relation to my schedule. I'm pretty much in the lab most Saturday mornings until 12 or 1. As far as I'm concerned, the game time is the game time. I'm not going to waste time or breath bitching about it.

I loved the guy grilling the hot dogs on the east side wearing a Purdue hat and jacket. Looks great at BG. Someone needs to correct this stupid crap.

In section 13 a few of us were standing and cheering during crucial times. One gentleman a few rows ahead of me was pleading to the fans to stand up and cheer. He was informed by people around him to sit down and be quiet. He was then made fun of the remainder of the game. Pretty embarassing.AyZiggy97 wrote: It's sad that I should question whether I am right in standing and cheering before a third down snap.

It actually is slightly more difficult than stated, but that's only because we have so many rogue frequencies floating around the field. Most of the bad sound isn't from the distance, its from interference because of all the crap on the field.hammb wrote:That's kinda what I was thinking. Yeah, the only thing you would need to do is build in a DCS or CTCSS tone so the only frequency decoded is the one you want. Most wireless microphones have this capability built in already.toddpav wrote:It actually is slightly more difficult than stated, but that's only because we have so many rogue frequencies floating around the field. This one kills me . . . 14,000 people in the area, (including the Band on the front sidewalk), the new "Front Porch of BGSU" and at 11:00AM we attempted to view it and use the facilities.
We were told it was CLOSED and could NOT enter as they were "CLEANING"!!

It probably wasn't the same idiot sitting diagonal from me. He and his buddy were drunk as a skunk in the brown chairbacks of section 13, every other word a cuss word, and they would stand and scream, "Stand up you *****!" It's the same idiot that stood in the student section at hockey games banging on the glass ALL game. Some people need to take their meds.Tricky_Falcon wrote:In section 13 a few of us were standing and cheering during crucial times.
