Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
This is supposed to be Beckman's "up and out year".... they're loaded with SR's on both sides of the ball hey're a good team, but I don't think they're a great team...they still have NIU, WMU and Ball State to deal with, so the toughest portion of the conference sked is yet to come for them.
I like us against Kent and Buffalo....Temple, NIU and OU will determine the year for us

3 losses in a row. I am not advocating for it but how many in a row would lead to Clawson being out?
Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
Clawson is 1-2. Or are you saying 3 in a row gets him fired?Globetrotter wrote:3 losses in a row. I am not advocating for it but how many in a row would lead to Clawson being out?
Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
If three losses in a row are cause for dismissal, then we only have about two coaches that should be here!
Just take a look at the head of the department and see where the real problem lies. Does someone want to add up his won/loss record since he has been here? The conference record would be even more revealing. You notice that even volleyball that started off great this year, playing an inferior schecdule, is now 3-5 in the MAC and I expect hockey record to follow once we are in conference play. Hope not but.........!

Jesus...do you have to turn every thread and comment you make into a GC rant?
So far as Clawson goes...we lost to a top 25 caliber team on the road, one of the divisional favorites on the road and Toledo...who might be the best team in the conference right now. I don't think it's time to push the panic button just yet.

Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
Thanks! It's been a frustrating few years, to say the least. Many keep forgetting how young we really are. I too, expect things to greatly improve in the next few years. AND, more importantly, I appreciate a rival fan who has a little class to come here and wish us well. I think your head coach needs to take a few lessons from you. His behavior is going to come back and bite him in the AZZ...mark my words!!Rocket_Fanatic wrote:You guys are young. Lot of frosh and soph in the starting lineups. One kid who impressed me was freshman DT Hunter Maynard... he got pushed around some, but he made some plays and battled too. For an 18 year-old kid, I thought he did well. Kid looks like a DT anyway....and that's a change for us.

Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
I think everyone needs to relax a little bit.
Listen, I understand everyone is frustrated and rightfully so. We're going through growing pains right now, the coaching has been questionable at times, and the team is showing the same problems we've had for the past 3-4 seasons. But I think there's hope.
You can call me a homer or an optimist and maybe I am to an extent but I actually like the direction of the team at this point in the season. I think people are forgetting that we're 3-4 still..how many of you really expected to be 3-4 at this point before the season started? Probably not many. We should probably be 4-3 right now (Wyoming) and maybe even 5-2 if we didn't flop in the second half this past weekend. Plus, the schedule gets easier here on out. Each of the teams coming up is beatable - they've all looked pretty average and we've shown that we can stick with any of the teams in the MAC. I don't think 6-6 or 7-5 is out of the question.
On top of that, if you were expecting an 8 or 9 win season after going 2-10 the season before you have some unrealistic expectations. I know what Miami did last season but that sort of thing doesn't happen very often, especially in a conference that is improving from top to bottom. I know everyone is frustrated. Losing at home to Toledo always hurts and I know there is some angry feelings towards Beckman and the post game but we have a lot to look forward to. I know it has been beaten to death on here and in the media but we're a very young team and with that comes growing pains. We have something like 81 freshmen and sophomores and will return 18 starters next year. Of the 4 that we lose 2 are receivers which we will replace with 4-star recruit JeRon Stokes, Shaun Joplin and Heath Jackson. Joplin and Jackson are guys with talent who aren't playing because Cooper and Jorden are pretty good themselves, and Stokes is a transfer. Not to mention that our starting RB is a freshman, we have three 3-star QB (and will be adding a 4th), and our secondary is all freshmen and sophomores. With the way Clawson is recruited you can probably add in another good class this year as well. The talent is there, the growth is not yet. We don't have a lot of older guys in the locker room so in games that have been pretty close there isn't anyone that has really a leadership role. Those will things come with time.. I don't think we have too many vocal leaders. As guys get older, they'll start to step into those roles and we won't lose games like the Wyoming game or this past weekend.
One thing I haven't liked however is how Clawson is handling the QB situation. He's getting away with it this year because it's easy to justify starting Schilz over Hurley but I'm concerned about the situation going forward. He hasn't gotten Hurley any meaningful time yet... not saying he has earned it but shouldn't you see what you have in him? Schilz certainly hasn't looked like a world beater and with Johnson coming off redshirt after this year you've got to see what's there with Hurley. You pretty much know what Schilz is going to give you (although there's room for improvement) but is Schilz the answer going forward? I'm not sure. We've heard good things about Hurley (recruited by Notre Dame) and Johnson (a BCS talent who wasn't given an opportunity because of his height), and Schilz clearly has some talent. Add the kid from Fort Wayne next year and all of a sudden you have a sticky situation in about a year. Its about time to find a guy and stick with him before the inevitable happens and these guys leave. That sounds horrible but that's the reality of college football. I don't want us to miss out on the best guy because Clawson is cautious about playing him. That's all I'm saying.
Anyways, we're going to be fine. Don't jump off the bandwagon yet; there's plenty of season left and a possible bowl berth to play for.

You will never see me jump off the bandwagon. I have a license to drive that bus for life...but it doesn't get easier. Temple is the real deal and NIU is gonna be tough...they beat WMU 51-22 Sat. But, I think this team is good enough to win 3 of the last 5 to reach .500 for the season...and then look out next yr.

Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
I agree with most of what you said, except for the above part. I was at the scrimmages and I saw what Hurley could give us. Schilz out played him for sure and was the clear starter entering the season. Hurley can only blame himself for not starting this season. Also, the times that he's been in the game, he hasn't looked any better than Schilz, and this is usually against 2nd string defenses.bgdodgeball4 wrote:One thing I haven't liked however is how Clawson is handling the QB situation. Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
I agree 51. The coaches see everyone, EVERYDAY in practice and both Schilz and Hurley split time with the #1's. I think they are playing who they think gives us the best chance to win every week and I trust their judgement over people's opinion who might go to all of the home games or watch on TV.
