Thanks for the welcome kdog. Been a long time visitor to the site but just finally got around to joining this year. You make a good point about the 2003 NIU and Toledo teams. Western was also good that year, but just a tick below that top tier group. That was such a strong year for the conference, I was sure we were on our way to bigger and better things. Those top teams beat a good number of "BCS" conference schools that year and Miami was capable of beating darn near any team in the country, aside from maybe an elite few. Their only loss was at Iowa and that was because Rothlisberger had his only bad game of the year. I think he threw something like 4 picks. They ended up finishing ranked 9th in the country if I'm not mistaken, but I would argue there weren't 8 teams better than that one. It's been disappointing that the MAC wasn't able to continue the upswing. I hope no one gets the idea that I'm a Miami fan.....that couldn't be further from the truth. It tore me up to see them beat us twice that year, especially in the championship, but I will give credit where it's due.

Hoping to make it to Akron this week and will try to find the group if I can get up there in time for some pre-kick off activities.

That Miami was team was awesome. They laid an egg at Iowa that cost them a BCS chance. Not only did they have Rothlisberger, but, their offensive line was really good that year.

The top of the MAC that year was as good as a lot of the big boys. Miami, BG, NIU, Toledo. Marshall was pretty good that year, too.

That offense could score on anybody, but what struck me in the championship game was how good their defense was. We did score on them that day, but we had a great offense and it had to claw and fight for everything. Watching the game from high in the stands gives you the ability to see what's going on away from the ball, unlike what you see on tv. I was impressed at how they had our guys covered all over the field and when we made something positive, it took a big time effort by one of our guys to make a play. That game wasn't a case of our guys laying an egg and having a bad performance - it was just Miami playing just about a perfect game. Terna Nande was a monster that night and that entire season. I was shocked he didn't stick in the NFL.

Ok, enough of the kind comments for Miami.............let's beat the Roos!!!

Yep, BG and Miami both brought their A games that day. Miami was just clearly better in all phases of the game. The time beat to them was at their place when they played flat but unfortunately we were even flatter...
