Considering they will have at most 6 home games a year, that plan is basically renovating their home stadium just to abandon it for a pro stadium that is almost two hours away. Talk about a way to alienate your students, alums, and fans all in one. You need consistency. IMO if they want to make things far easier, make all home games played at their campus stadium. Take whatever penalty is incurred to scratch the deal with with Gillette or alter it to do 1 game a year at Gillette to appeal to the Boston area alums and fans. The plan they have is not a good idea or a sustainable one going into the future.
I think you are right on point here. Those things always interest me. I can somewhat get there reasoning (Bigger city, alumni presence) but it seems to make more sense to put a stadium right in the heart of campus for the students and alumni who want to return. You are not building long term alumni support by frustrating your current students and making it difficult for them to go to games. I love where Michigans stadium is if I remember correctly. OSU to, to an extent. I wonder if we could plop ours right on Anderson Arena :).
Notre Dame has the best stadium placement of any college campus I've been on. Right in the heart of everything.

If umass leaves the Mac than BG goes to the west meaning we are back in the cellar since the east schedule is a joke

Yeah, since seven west teams and five east teams makes perfect sense. Wow Sportydude, you really know your sports.
