Not sure what you mean by writing on the wall, but he & Dr. Mazey had agreed on a multi-year contract extention (four years, I believe), so he was in no danger whatsoever of being fired.pdt1081 wrote:Or did he see the writing on the wall and made his move first?Globetrotter wrote:Is this really a step up?

Perrenial NCAA Sweet16 school raking in lots of tournament dough in what is, in name at least, a big time conference, trumps your negated inequalitybgsufalcon24 wrote:Division I-A / FBS school > Division I without football - would seem to negate that inequalityBGFalconfromCincy wrote:Shouldn't the Xavier president be your hero.... Word of mouth. I apologize, & I understand if you don't believe me, but I haven't seen it in print anywhere. Maybe someone on this board with BGSU connections can do some checking & prove me right or wrong. Just remember, when I'm proven right, you heard it here first!

I'm quite happy with this news.
Come on BG, hire someone who will be driven to improve all BG sports, including men's basketball!

Re: factman's greatest day ever
Can't say I'm sad hearing this news. While the facilities under GC's watch certainly improved (no way that can be debated), the way some long time coaches were treated as well as losing the "Family" atmosphere in the athletic department always rubbed me the wrong way. Obviously the way he went about trying to cut the hockey program was a disaster and backfired on him in a BiG way. That, alone, did a lot of damage with his image in the BG community. I wish him well at Xavier and man, am I excited to see who Dr. Mazey and the Trustees bring in to replace him.

Re: factman's greatest day ever
An article I read from 2009 stated that the Xavier AD was one of nine employees at the university who were receiving more than $200,000 a year. That's three years ago. Mike Bobinski, the AD at the time, has since moved on the Georgia Tech at $650,000 a year in spite of having no D1 football experience at Xavier. Don't think this is a downward move for Christopher.
Re: factman's greatest day ever
This is the best thing to happen to BGSU Athletics in quite sometime. GC was out to use BG to springboard to a better job by whatever means necessary. It worked for him temporarily, but I think the way he treated people while he was here will eventually catch up to him. Let's hire someone who is about winning and bringing back some of the pride that has been destroyed over the past 7 years.
