I remember why I ignore the football season.

It's good that you stick to hoops, because you obviously don't have a clue about football.

BG wasn't supposed to win that game, despite all the bravado you might have read on here. IU is an up and coming program in the Big Ten, under a coach that has them improving by leaps and bounds -- especially when it comes to recruiting skill players. These are the type of players most MAC schools cannot recruit, and the type that typically cause MAC schools major matchup problems.

But why am I explaining this to you? You obviously don't care about anything but hoops. 8-)
Wasn't the line like 3 points? How much is given just for a home game?
Lines are based on how the betting goes, not on how badly Vegas really believes a team will beat one another. Their goal is to make money. Also, let's not forget how early in the season it is so setting initial lines is really hard with some teams; nobody really knows how good or bad they might be. I believe both BG and IU fit into that category.

Honestly, I HOPED BG could be in this game to the end and steal one. My head said we'd be lucky to stay close, even with a defense that had been pretty good to that point, because I knew what kind of talent IU had been recruiting, and the matchup problem it presented for BG. Especially on offense and in the passing game. I'd seen BG's defense struggle against MAC quarterbacks with decent passing games...so I knew it was likely IU would be very challenging.

So when things got out of hand, it wasn't a total shock. Just an unpleasant jolt back to reality. Playing against Big Ten teams, on the road, generally means matchup and depth issues for MAC teams, unless (1) the Big Ten team cooperates by turning the ball over and playing really bad (see what Michigan did against Akron) or (2) the MAC school has been really talented for a while and is playing a lower level Big Ten school (see Northern Illinois against Iowa).

Finally, BG was using a QB who was starting his SECOND game. Unless you get really fortunate in your recruiting and player development, it is rare for a QB in that situation to go into a BCS stadium and knock off the home team.

On to Murray State and FAVORED status...and a chance to right the ship heading into MAC play.
