INJURIES: Rover Gabe Martin, BG’s leading tackler last year, is probable for Saturday’s game after sitting out last week against Murray State with a leg injury. Safety Josh Pettus (knee), and defensive tackle Ted Ouellet (knee) are both doubtful. Running back Fred Coppet (hip) is questionable.
I suppose probable, questionable and doubtful is better than out of the year. IMO we can defeat Akron with their replacements and should rest everyone except Martin to preserve them for bigger games.

The genius who made our schedule (Christopher?) also gave us a road game against a physical 8 win SEC team as the last game before Toledo. There's a bye week in between but it's still a terrible position to put a team in.
Before you criticize a former AD for being a "genius" on scheduling...I believe that the MAC schedule is NOT done by individual teams, but rather by the conference. Scheduling Miss. St. as a mid season game, I'm assuming, has to do with whatever Sats. are "open" for both teams...since MSU is coached by a former BG coach, there was probably a little more "flexibility" if you will to get the game on the schedule.

Let's just see if we can play Murray State 4 times

Seriously bitching about playing an average SEC team?

I think it's great we're playing Miss State this year. A team we've never faced and a chance for the guys to venture into SEC country. Too cool...

I have no problem playing a team tougher than anyone Ohio State will play this year. I do question the wisdom of positioning the game directly before our biggest rival.

MSU will be like a BG reunion: Mullen, Gonzales, Hevesy and Assistant AD for Football Jon Clark.

Clearly you don't realize that scheduling your opponents isn't as simple as it is in EA sports video games. Like 61 said BG doesn't pick their conference schedule and most OOC games are set up years ahead of time. There is no one to blame here.

And, as mentioned, we have a BYE WEEK between the two games.

Saw a couple more guys went down for us today including starting LT Jacob Bennett. Anyone know if he's okay? The last few weeks the injuries have really started to add up for us.

Guys on the radio said that Bennett was good to go later in the game...don't think they put him back in though, which was a good idea IMO...why make a possible "minor" injury worse? :-k

Looks like no serious injuries from Saturday. Montgomery came back in the game and Bennett was ready to go. Hopefully this week the team can get Ouellet and Coppet back and start to get healthier for the Miss St., Toledo and Ohio games.

OOC games are set up years in advance. Did Mississippi State just recently join the SEC? There is no good reason to schedule an SEC road game smack dab in the middle of the season.

Yes, lucky us. Play the most physical game of the season before a rival AND not have a game in between to get the timing and rythem of the offense back on track.

It sounds like we should know this week whether Hunter is coming back or not. Obviously if not, that means he'll likely miss the rest of the season. But if he can, at 4-1 and more than half a season to go, he could provide our secondary with a huge addition (he was slated as a starter before his injury). Hope to see he get cleared!
GO BG!!!
