He did say that (or all but). However, if Omar had gone down late in the season, (let's say during the Toledo game), it would have been a tough call on whether to pull the shirt off Turner for one or two games with no title possibility. Agreed, though. It worked out great. Turner will be the real backup next year, and during Fall practice, Coach was very high on him.Schadenfreude wrote:I believe Brandon all but said that early in the season.between that and something I heard somewhere (at the UT game, maybe? Freak, did you tell me this and I forgot? Damn this old age!) that Turner was "technically" the #2 guy, but only if needed (they weren't going to take a redshirt off for a few meaningless plays in a meaningless game.
It worked out beautifully for us. Glad we were able to leave the shirt on Turner.
Looks like the MAC will fall to 1-2 in the Bowls

Turdledo could not make a tackle. They looked terrible. What's there bowl record now? I'm glad they lost. The only downer is that nationally it looks like the MAC Champion just got punked by an OK UCONN team. I think BG would have taken UCONN.
How could the Turds be so flat for a bowl game?
I hate to say it, but I don't think NIU or Miami is going to win either. The MAC is going to be 1 and 4 in bowls this year. NIU might have the best shot, but I don't think Miami can beat Iowa State.
Thank God for BG!

6-3 or 7-2, depending on who is counting:Falcon52 wrote: What's there bowl record now?

Some Toledo fans will tell you they also played in four bowl games immediately after World War II. But these "Glass Bowl" games are not recognized as genuine bowl games by the NCAA.

Toledo is the best MAC team Connecticut has ever beaten. It was easy to dismiss many of those Huskie wins as coming against inferior competition. But Huskie football made a real statement last night.Falcon52 wrote:Great research Schade! I did hear them mention the UNLV forfeit last night on TV. Last night when they mentioned UCONN's record against MAC schools, I was surprised at the number of wins they had. I wonder who they beat. Buffalo 10 times?
It sounded like LDU was "resting" their starting QB for a few weeks. Yet you would assume the freshman they started in the third quarter would have picked more up than he appears too. But that assumes their coaches were truly planning for the wrost.
Yet, he also looked like he had more polish than just a first year back-up coming off the bench, so maybe they tried to get him ready and failed. I recall it took the starter nearly a full year to really grasp their "complex" offense. It could be they just aren't very good at developing the second and third strings until they are starters. That would speak to a basic problem they seem to have. You could chalk up much of their issues early this year to that.
As for their "bowl" record: So they really are 4-2 or 3-3 against current 1A football teams. This assumes San Jose State manages to survive as a 1A program, if at all.
BGSU is 4-3 (with all three lost game coming against Fresno State, including a charitable game called the Mercy Bowl.) Looks like we have a fighting chance to equal or beat their record in the coming years.

Sorry Display
Yes, we HAD a backup named Cedrick Stevens. - Darned near beat Bruce for the job. He is doing well as starter at Eastern Tennessee State. I think that the team knew they were dead after watching Bruce workout this week. Our only option was a Freshman backup with 20 snaps and the physique of Penny Hardaway, and the baby backs are ONLY effective when nobody is watching them.Falcon Commander wrote:I am sorry to see the MAC lose.
Now, I am not an expert but, doesn't the coaching staff know if their QB can throw a ball BEFORE the game??? :coo-coo:
How long ago did this happen? and if there was a concern, don't you have your B Plan practiced ready to go?
I couldn't watch the game, but it sounded like the staff put all their hopes on Bruces 'toughness'! If you can't grip and throw spiral, what was the staff thinking?
I am also wondering if toledo was disappointed in a retrun to MCB? and lacked some motivation?![]()
Also wonder about all of their staff thinking about their new jobs and not tu any more???
Morale of the story BGSU: BE Sure we have an Experienced Backup (God forbid) if we ever need one!! One doink on a helmet and look out . . .
I am looking forward to next year. IS Omar the next Daunte or Josh? Not convinced yet.

Not convinced? Geez, the kid threw 41 TDs against 4 INTs and was only sacked 10 times. He threw for more than 4000 yards and ran for 300 more (plus 4 more TDs).LakelandRocket wrote:I am looking forward to next year. IS Omar the next Daunte or Josh? Not convinced yet.
And he's a sophomore.
Were you convinced about Bruce Alrighty after his sophomore season? For the record, that year he threw for 3,200 yards, 29 TDs and 7 INTs; he ran for 500 yards and a TD.
Talk about a tough room...
I'm convinced that Omar is the next big MAC QB and may end up being better than Ben, Byron, Chad, Josh, Charlie, etc, but I can see why Lakeland is skeptical. Omar's team lost the 2 biggest MAC games on the road and Memphis was the only good team Omar led us to a victory over. Hopefully we can roll into Madison and Boise next September and come out with 2 wins. I think he'll be convinced then and so will everyone else in the MAC. They'll realize pretty quickly that they're probably just playing for 2nd place in 2005.

Lakeland, I understand the comparison you're drawing. My answer would be, either one would be fine with me!LakelandRocket wrote:I am looking forward to next year. IS Omar the next Daunte or Josh? Not convinced yet.
Lakeland, did playing at Ford Field twice in three weeks time make the MCB trip seem less special? Just curious.
