Re: Well, Gates may have just blown any shot at the NFL
A week away from the most important time in his life and he does this. It would be stupid if he was even at a party where they were smoking pot and didn't leave. Fringe players don't tend to get second chances.
Re: Well, Gates may have just blown any shot at the NFL
Stupid yes but do any of you really think he had a shot in the NFL anyways? I couldn't see him making it past the first cuts.

That was my first thought: They put people in the Wood County Jail for selling $30 of marijuana? Not smart for Boo Boo. But dear goodness.

My apologies...I thought you were a two fisted beer drinking man. At any rate what we have here is an old guy generation gap. A battle between the 50'60's and the 70/80's. Big assed cars with fins vs conversion vans with air brushed images of wolves surfing over the stars, bobby-soxers vs girls in cutoffs, doo wop vs punk.Class of 61 wrote:First of all, I apologize a s I hit the wrong smiley....but you obviosly don't know me very well. Most who do will tell you I don't "pound a few - or any- brews at tailgate. I know you guys look at the whole pot thing differently than I do, and I DON'T know that $30 worth is nothing. But we come from a different time frame so I guess I'll still think this is a dumb thing to do, especially at this time.Flipper wrote:Class of 61 wrote:Flipper wrote:We need to take a long, hard look at the drug laws in this country. Is worth the man hours for the cops, prosecutors, court etc... to pursue this kind of thing? $30 and a handful of grass and now the young man in question is in the criminal justice system, his future soemwhat clouded by this indescretion. Should he know better? Sure...but is this really what we want?
Sorry flip, but I think you're all wet on this...I know...I'm the " old guy" in this group but I'm currently in COLORADO of all places. There were brochures at the car rental counter re: the purchase and use of pot etc. if you think that selling the stuff for $30 is no big deal it's YOUR opinion, but if I had even an outside chance of being drafted by the NFL, I'd sure as HELL want to keep a positive image and clean reputation. I think that's why teams look at character as well as talent!
Yeah..... ok Jack Webb, you go ahead and cluck your little hen tongue over Boo Boo 's arrest while you pound a few brews at the tailgate. You realize that selling $30 worth of weed is pretty much the same thing as selling no weed? But you go ahead and preach on about character...and since you saw fit to flip me off, I font feel badly at all in telling you to go fvck yourself.
Nobody wants to see that
I respectfully withdraw the go fvck yourself... :0

And FWIW...I have a great deal of respect for Jack Webb. He consistently portrayed African Americans as honest, hard working citizens at a time when other producers of crime dramas depicted them as being either militants or lawn jockeys.

Why not? 4.5 ish speed, great against the run. Good ST player. I think he would stick easily.
Re: Well, Gates may have just blown any shot at the NFL
I would like you to be right but farr better players from BG have never sniffed an NFL roster IMO.

The biggest thing that gets me was detaining him without bail. It seems pretty excessive for a case like this and a guy with no priors.
I don't claim to know the guy, but I've seen him around at events. He seems like generally likable guy with a sense of humor. Hard to believe that he gave enough trouble to warrant being held without bail on exam week.
I've seen other cases where individuals have been released without bail in bowling green, and they do have priors.
I'm okay with the rest of it. Marijuana is illegal in Ohio, at least for now. He was caught with it, so he should be charged. If the law changes we can all start passing the peace pipe outside the Doyt, but not before.
I just don't understand why he is getting such a heavy hand.

He should have been smarter, and if I were an influence in his life, I would have swayed him to stay away from pot AND alcohol, just to maintain a positive image in one of the most important times of your life.
...but "drug trafficking?" Give me a friggin break. You know how much you make on selling a 30 dollar bag? Nothing. You barely make any on 200 dollars, because its about TRAFFIC. Person to person to person. Profits are tiny after purchase, unless you're buying pounds. 30 dollars is you doing your friend a favor and getting him a bag from someone you know and trusts you but potentially not your friend.
Maybe he should be arrested, punished, whatever. But no more I hope than a little too much booze, maybe a excessive speeding ticket. We were, or still are, young and dumb at one point. end rant.

Held without bail for this? Just a bit excessive in my mind. Man, what a bummer.

Re: Well, Gates may have just blown any shot at the NFL
So I can understand where you're coming from...who was a "much better" player? Boo Boo was first team All MAC twice as a S and 2nd team once as a KR. If you look at his pro day measurables against the #'s other prospects had at the combine...he's in the top third. There was some buzz about both he and Bayer after their pro day. I think he had a shot....I think he might still if in fact all this brouhaha is over a single $30 transaction.kdog27 wrote:I would like you to be right but farr better players from BG have never sniffed an NFL roster IMO.

Flip, I guess you're right but our track record putting players in the NFL outside of the offensive and defensive lines is pretty much nonexistent and that is what I'm going off of. I know he was all MAC but I never pictured him in the NFL. I will say I looked at his pro days stats and they are better than what I had expected.

Re: Well, Gates may have just blown any shot at the NFL
I've been as guilty as anyone in overvaluing our players pro potential. I thought Freddie might stick and possibky Jorden too and that never happened...I think the reflex is just to assume anyone outside of an OL isn't going to make it. I honestly feel that Bayer and Boo Boo are good enough to fill roles in the NFL...

I can see Bayer. Not sure he has the speed though as it seems today's TE is trending towards a WR/TE hybrid. Hope they both make it of course.
