Equally as shocking as lining up corners 15 yards off receivers and watching them throw virtually against air was how our vaunted offensive scheme was basically a rushed version of the West Coast offense. Up the middle runs for little gain followed by more up the middle runs for little gain? 3 yard pass routes? 3 yard pass routes on 3rd and long?
During the draft process, Jimmy Garopollo mentioned that he told scouts worried about whether his game would translate to the NFL how the passing system and route tree was nearly identical to the West Coast system NFL teams run.
The offensive system doesn't fit Johnson and completely takes away his ability to improvise, scramble and make plays with his feet while the defensive system doesn't fit anyone.
