Wait, Mike DeBoring is your offensive coordinator? As a guy who has watched a lot of Michigan football, I am so, so sorry.

how much is it going to matter in our game with them? Even if he were to call the same boring run plays all day would we be able to stop them?
We get it, the defense is thee worst thing ever. I think you have established that.

MarkL. Tell me about Mike DeBoring. We Tennessee fans know next to zero about this guy and what he does on the field in calling plays. Can you describe this to me as you understand it. I know Butch Jones wants to restore Tennessee to its old nickname of "Wide Receiver U." It sounds to me as if DeBord might be a hindrance rather than a help in doing that. Please. Just vomit it all out for me---the good and the bad about DeBord from your perspective.

He is known as DeBoring or DeBored among Michigan fans. He was the OC in 06-07 at Michigan and had Chad Henne, Mike Hart, Mario Manningham, and Steve Breaston to work with and yet the offense was terribly, horribly predictable. Maybe it should reflect more on Carr than DeBord but the offense worked by executing better than the defense - not by outscheming the defense. They only had a few simple run plays and the pass game just focused on a couple key receivers. The playbook had to be small, just well executed.

Obviously this becomes problematic when
a) you face a great defense
b) your top players go down and your reserve players cannot execute to the level of the starters (see Michigan 2007 offensive problems)

Basically the game started evolving offensively but Michigan missed out. Only once in DeBord's time at Michigan did the team look innovative on offense and that was the bowl game at the end of the 07 season. RichRod had just been hired as the Michigan coach and the offense under Lloyd Carr came out in five-wide and other spread sets. It was a lot of fun.
Side note - if Rodriguez would have implemented the bowl game offense in 2008 with the players he inherited, I think M would have had a far better season than they had when he tried to move M from a pro-style offense to his WVU offense in one year.

Edit. I'll also put in a plug for my blog for all the technical people out there. I've been busy and lazy about updating and if anybody has a relevant topic for me to address I'm all ears.

Thanks MarkL. That is a little depressing. I sure hope Jones can keep him from doing that boring stuff at Tennessee. Our fans were glad to see Randy Sanders leave as Offensive Coordinator---and the most often cited reason they wanted him to leave was unimaginative play calling. DeBord could get himself in a sling MDQ with our fans if he starts doing the same crap. Anyway. Thanks again. Much Appreciated---and I hope you will enjoy our upcoming game and the Nashville sights and sounds if you are headed our way!!!

Any temptation to pick the upset is thwarted by the realization that we never can seem to beat a team called "UT" :x

UT - 38
BG - 17

It's tied at half at half at 14-14, but our defensive line/secondary win it for us in the second half.

Like most everyone else weighing in here, I hope I am wrong. Our defense will not be able to stay off the field and by mid third quarter they will be very tired and spent. Thus Tennessee 45 - BGSU 17
Halftime 31 -3
SAme old Same old

My guess is 45-21 Tennessee. BG scores first to lead 7-0, but Tennessee cruises from there.
