It seems to me that if the MAC has a chance to put Bowling Green against a better-known opponent in Detroit or San Diego, that's what the conference will do.

Mobile is a fun time. It's a good bowl game. But if Toledo is in Detroit playing Minnesota or in San Diego playing Boise State and the Falcons are in Mobile, I'll be disappointed. I think the Falcons deserve the shot to take down another brand name opponent.

Arky St is a decent team but Ga Southern would be a tougher opponent with their time consuming running game and we have not been very good at stopping good running teams. However, given the GoDaddy bowl is at a later date we might have sufficient time to prepare. I believe the rules say we would not have any more official practice time but the players & coaches can watch more film etc... w/o violating those rules.

But yes, if BG wins the MACC, I'd hope we'd get the 'premier' bowl available for the MAC. We're also a decent draw with a prolific offense to sell so that should help.
Go Daddy is no longer at a later date like it has been, it is now December 23

Oops, so much for extra prep time. Thanks for the correction. I was mislead by my own 'gnarledge' instead of knowledge.

Greeting from this Georgia Southern fan. The word out of the Sun Belt is that Arkansas State will be in New Orleans. They have played in Mobile for the last 4 years and there fans are ready for a change. The GoDaddy will pick Georgia Southern over AppSt due to the Eagles preselling more tickets to the game and fanbase being a better traveling fanbase. Also the word out of Mobile is that them bowl will also pick the winner of your game this Friday.

Good call, Georgia Southern is indeed headed to the GoDaddy Bowl. App St. to Camellia and Ark St. to New Orleans.

No disrespect to Georgia Southern....But, if BG wins the MAC it will be extremely disappointing if they don't get another conference champ, a P5 or a "name bowl" like the Poinsettia.

Yes, that is the least attractive of all the MAC Bowl match ups. YUK! We deserve better. I would rather play a 5-7 team like Nebraska..

The Mobile game is a good game. It's also a good time down there. Any MAC school would certainly rather go there than Boise, and Montgomery is also a clear second fiddle, just in terms of the established bowl pecking order.

But I do agree. I would also rather play a 5-7 Nebraska.

If we win, I think the Falcons should be playing in San Diego against the Mountain West. If we lose, put the Falcons in Detroit against the Big Ten.

I'm sure Georgia Southern is a fine program. They tore up FCS for a lot of years. They might be able to beat us. But I think Georgia Southern fans would feel the same way if they were in our situation.

Good evening gentlemen.

Curious of our projected bowl opponent, a good many Georgia Southern fans have been silently scrolling through your board and sharing what they've read.

I know a few of you have been just as curious about this FBS upstart from South Georgia that moved in from the elite class of FCS.

Here's the highlights of the Western Michigan game:

Best of luck to you in dispatching NIU tonight.

I really hope we go to a different bowl other than Mobile this year. I was really hoping we'd get a fresh look at one of the other ones.

The Blade said this:

The Falcons are likely headed to the GoDaddy Bowl to play Georgia Southern. Bowl assignments will be announced Sunday, at the latest.

Yes. Of all the potential Mac bowl match ups GS has the smallest name recognition footprint. How does this crap happen?

Hopefully we'll land in Boca and I really don't want to play Georgia Southern - and I say that out of complete respect for GSU. They are a nightmare team to prepare for with that type of offense and lead the country in rushing. GSU crushed WMU by completing 1....that's 1....pass for 7 yards. Think about that for a minute....you complete one pass for seven yards and still destroy your opponent. If I'm not mistaken I think they beat Florida in the swamp a year or two ago without completing a pass or something like that.

The tough thing for the MAC is with these bowl games is that the bowls don't really want any of the MAC teams. They want ESPNs money and then they hope for a decent southern school that will travel to the game...whatever MAC team they end up with is fine because none of the MAC schools are going to really travel well anyway. Thus you get a conference champion like BG kinda just sitting there waiting to see where they end up.

If anyone at the NCAA had the balls to step up to these power 5 schools they'd be able to have a 16 team tournament. All the conference champs are in and the rest are at large bids...seed them 1-16 and the first two rounds are at home sites. If BG has to play at Bama in round 1, so be it, but at least you're playing for something.

Otherwise I'd just assume the MAC go FCS instead of pissing all the money down the drain so their MAC Champion can go play in Mobile against a mid major team that didn't win anything significant....(no offense to GA Southern, I could see them beating us especially with half a staff preparing for the game.)

Well... At least, it's nice to know how your opponent rates you.

Total stonewall, thanks.

Best of luck on the 23rd. You're gonna need it.

We rate your football team just fine. They seem like a pretty good team, and on the rise just making the jump from 1AA in recent memory. That straight up option ball will be a complete change from anything we've tried to defend all year, and will likely give us fits.

You just gotta look where we're coming from.

Firstly we're salty because we won our conference and don't get to play for anything but a stupid bowl. I realize it's your first bowl, and I'm sure you guys are excited (which is yet another reason I wouldn't be surprised at all to see BG lose), but for us we've been in a lot of bowls in recent memory. It's starting to peeve us off that the bowls we go to don't seem to change whether we win 7 games or win the conference and knock off a couple Big10 teams. At the end of the season we don't get to play for anything meaningful. Many of us feel we should be matching up against MSU or 'bama for a likely ass kicking, but at least it would be a meaningful one.

Secondly, we're going into the bowl game without our head coach, and being led by a bunch of assistants who are quite likely as interested in relocated to Syracuse, NY as they are coaching the bowl game. We've seen this enough times here to know this story generally doesn't end well.

Finally, while the team Ga Southern brings is probably pretty good, the name they bring is a nothing name. In a sport where it's all about prestige and name recognition I think most would agree they'd rather play the 5-7 Northwestern team for a chance to knock off another Big10 team, even though nearly anybody would agree the TEAM at Georgia Southern is probably better than Northwestern.

I know I personally have no excitement whatsoever for the bowl game, and honestly I expect a loss. But that lack of excitement has NOTHING to do with the quality of the team our opponent will be bringing to Mobile. I'm more excited to see how our new head coach fills out his staff, and to hear him speak than I am for this game. I think a lot of BG fans feel the same way, and it's not meant at all as a slight to your team.
