Syracuse Tampering
Re: Syracuse Tampering
Big difference - Babers is actually a good coach. Beckman was a professional coattail rider.

Yeah, but can he recruit?MarkL wrote:Big difference - Babers is actually a good coach. Beckman was a professional coattail rider.
Stealing recruits from BG is not going cut it. Not walking into a deep roster this time.

Re: Syracuse Tampering
I really like Coach Babers...he was very engaging and personable during his time here. Unfortunately, it appears he is like most coaches in college ball these days. Time will tell if he can win at SU.

While we're at it we can collect 300k from them as well. There's no way that deal was initiated and consummated in a couple hours on a Saturday morning.

Re: Syracuse Tampering
Ok, they just got a comit from one of our " de-commits". So, this is the first actual one that ive seen while cross checking. And the St. Eds kid MIGHT be another, tho he had never been listed as commited to us.

We do not know the facts as to why or how previous commits left, but are not the only team with this situation. See the following article:
Highest-rated UT recruit shifts gears to ISU
BY NICHOLAS PIOTROWICZ BLADE SPORTS WRITER01/19/2016, 1:22am EST
Former University of Toledo coach Matt Campbell secured a commitment from another former Rockets pledge, this time the highest-rated player in UT's next class. With National Signing Day 16 days away, wide receiver Jalen Martin, a 6-foot-2 wide receiver from Chandler Park (Mich.) Academy, announced on Twitter that he switched his commitment from Toledo to Iowa State. Nineteen players had nonbinding verbal agreements with Toledo before Campbell took the Iowa State job on Nov. 28; six decommitted and three have since followed Campbell to Ames, Iowa. “Extremely blessed and excited to say I am officially committed to Iowa State University,” Martin tweeted shortly after 10 p.m. Monday. Martin's announcement likely wasn't a shock to UT's staff. This past weekend, one of the recruiting season's most crucial for official visits, Martin chose to visit ISU. According to the recruiting service Rivals.com's rating system, Martin was the top player in the Rockets' class. He joins cornerback Jatairis Grant and defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike as former UT commits who will attend Iowa State instead. Campbell released a tongue-in-cheek tweet after the announcement, saying “Cyclone Nation [sic] a true playmaker comes to lead the offense. Attitude, effort, and toughness coming soon. #DetroitToug#SoundTheSirens.”
Maybe there should be something done with coaches leaving before bowl games and coaches accepting recruits previously committed or contacted during their tenure with the previous university. They were on the previous universities payroll when they met the potential recruits.

Re: Syracuse Tampering
Verbal commits are fair game. Might be seen as sleazy to some, but still fair game until the ink goes on the LOI.
The tampering issue is over players that are currently enrolled at BGSU and on our roster.

Generally speaking...you aren't supposed to target guys committed to you on the last job. Clawson didn't do it..at all..and he didn't encourage people to decommit like Dino did before going after them. Campbell dispensed with that formality completely and just went after UT commits the second he hit Ames.
The UT people have a right to be a bit peeved...perhaps even vexed...certainly miffed...with him over his behavoir

Clawson had the decency to respect the program he had built and wanted to insure that it would remain successful after his departure. Plus, I think he recognized bringing in MAC-caliber recruits wasn't going to help his cause at Wake.Flipper wrote:Generally speaking...you aren't supposed to target guys committed to you on the last job. I respect Dino for everything he did here, but he's got a scorched earth policy feel about him where he doesn't really care what or how he conducts is affairs so long as it benefits him. If I were a Syracuse fan, I'd question again why he's trying to flip MAC-caliber recruits to play in the ACC.

Re: Syracuse Tampering
Clawson wasn't completely"squeaky clean" as I know of at least one recruit he contacted, but he chose to remain at BG, but overall, his staff went after mostly other recruits.

The best part though was when he recruited the Toledo-bound QB to Wake.factman wrote:Clawson wasn't completely"squeaky clean" as I know of at least one recruit he contacted, but he chose to remain at BG, but overall, his staff went after mostly other recruits.

Re: Syracuse Tampering
This goes back to my question of can he actually recruit. If he could these players wouldn't be on his radar and he wouldn't say shady things like "we won't recruit you unless..." He might have well have said decomit so we can recruit you because that is certainly what he meant.jpfalcon09 wrote:If I were a Syracuse fan, I'd question again why he's trying to flip MAC-caliber recruits to play in the ACC.

THIS. I doubt the NCAA has the balls to do anything.

Hey, factman and I finally agree on something! Travis Smith lasted a few games at Wake, not sure he even saw a practice at EMU and was last enrolled at Mid-Michigan CC. THANK YOU, Mr. Clawson!,
