Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
He will make the team as he is a gunner on the punt team as well. Don't expect a lot of playing time on offense though unless OBJ, Marshall, or Sheppard get significantly hurt as in expected to miss games. The Giants like what he can do and the 1 catch he made the other night was a tough contested 4th down conversion.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Lewis made the Giants 53 man roster.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Lewis started the season with 4 catches against the Cowboys however the last 3 games Lewis has only 2 caches for 13 yards. He is listed as the #4 receiver on their depth chart but not sure if Lewis will remain in the league after this season. Has had a few bad drops already.

Not sure where you get your information. I've watched a lot of the Giants games. Roger has been targeted only 9 times and caught 7 balls for 73 yards. Three of his catches have resulted in first downs.
I know at least one of his non-catches was overthrown and not catchable. He continues to play well on punt coverage team. He has Beckham, Shepard and Marshall in front of him. Not a lot of opportunities. Marshall only has 16 catches and he plays on almost every passing down.

Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
I must have missed 1 catch. I have Sunday ticket and against the Bucs Sunday he missed 1 tackle on special teams and got away with a blatant block in the back. Against the Eagles he was perfect. Against the Lions the ball was overthrown. Against the Cowboys he had TWO bad drops. But being #4 on depth chart behind those veteran receivers it's hard to see him sticking around and just not sure if any other team would pick him up.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Again, not sure why the negativity towards the kid. Because he left BG early? Everything I read on the Giants website and fan boards, he's played well on special teams. As a gunner he's almost always around the returner catching the ball. Did he miss a tackle? I am sure he did. Who doesn't now and then? He's a receiver not a defensive back.gmartin wrote:I must have missed 1 catch. He's only had two targets he didn't catch so not sure where "bad drops" are coming from. Maybe he had one that he could of caught but that was a contested opportunity, not a bad drop IMO.
He's not 4th on the depth chart....he's 2nd behind Beckham. He also is the first to replace Marshall and Shepard (in the slot) when they need a blow.
Do you think the Browns would like to have him at wide receiver given their cast of characters at that position? Obviously, the Giants see something in him they like. He'll have two years of NFL experience and service time at the end of this season.
Nice job Roger!

Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Is this a candidate for overreaction of the year? The Giants love him and his upside. This may be Brandon Marshalls last year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire and head to the broadcasting booth as he seems to have a natural talent for it. It just seems like every week this guy is looking for excuse as to why Roger is going to wash out of the league. He's a 2nd year undrafted free agent who gets a lot of playing time in regards to snaps. That by itself is proof that he is on the right track to have a decent career.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
I don't think I'm over reacting. You say he is #2 and I say he is #4 because I consider the ones who line up in the slot. So you have Beckham, Marshall and Brandon. That's why I say he is #4. And the two other targets he bad were drops, just went back and watched it. I hope Lewis stays around and I hope he gets more playing time. I see McAdoo being fired at end of season or sooner so I'm hoping Lewis can play more to give the new coaching staff some more glimpses. I'm glad Lewis left BG when he did as I think playing without Matt Johnson would have hurt his chances.
On a side note still good to see former MAC players doing well, most noticeably Hunt and Brown.

Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Question? Who said he was their number 2 receiver? Nobody.....he's their solid number 4 receiver as they use him in games considerably more than King or Powe. Just look at the snap counts.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
I wish Lewis all the best. He's stuck for a couple years in the league, already and that alone is enough to make me say I was wrong about his decision. I thought he should have stuck around BG at least another season and been actually drafted so a team had a larger commitment to keep him around. At this point being drafted or not has no bearing...it's up to him to show he belongs. He's done enough to hold down a roster spot, so kudos to him.
Perhaps he could contribute in Cleveland, but I think he'd actually fit in pretty well. Their entire roster is fringe NFL guys, and that's what Lewis is.
I have only caught the games that were on the national spotlight but he never jumped out at me good or bad.
FWIW, and I put some stock in it, PFF has him at a grade in the mid 50s. That's pretty bad, although their metrics tend to be a bit odd when it's guys only getting limited reps, etc. I also don't have the more advanced PFF subscriptions so I don't know if he grades out great in some areas, less in others, etc. Simply being a top flight Special Teamer would keep him around for 3-4 years (until he gets expensive), regardless of ability to contribute at WR.

Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
I was wrong, too. I thought his leaving early would end badly for him, much as it seemed to for Omar Jacobs. But he's on an NFL team. It worked out. He made the right decision. Good for him.hammb wrote:I wish Lewis all the best. He's stuck for a couple years in the league, already and that alone is enough to make me say I was wrong about his decision. Lewis with a really nice TD catch today. Getting a lot of playing time after Shepard went down early.

Yup. Nice catch. And Beckham left with ankle injury that didn't look good. That was Lewis only catch of the day.
And Giants lost to go to 0-5

Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
Wow, OBJ out for the year. Marshall and Shepard could be weeks. We will see how well Lewis does as one of the main guys now for Manning.
Re: Lewis arrested for OVI
This is it. This stretch will be Lewis's career. There won't be any depth chart or opportunity talks. He's going to be on the field, and he'll probably be one of the top targets for the foreseeable future. He's got a fringe HoF caliber QB throwing him the ball.
If he's going to make this NFL thing into a career it has to happen now. Produce when given the chances and he can move forward without ever looking back. Hope he makes something of this. One of the disappointing things about our program, even when we've been good, we've done a poor job producing NFL talent. I want to see Roger as an 8+ year NFL WR and announcing "Bowling Green" as his university every time he starts a primetime game.
