I've been told that it wan't standing up for a girl, and that they were just being dumb looking for a fight over break.

This changes how I view this, and for the worse.

Sounds like you have been “told” a lot of varying and conflicting stories. Rather than passing on gossip, why don’t we just wait and see. Evidently it wasn’t too big of deal if the police weren’t involved and no charges.

Apologies, I wasn't trying to gossip. I just wanted to pass along information as it came to me. I just figured most of you would prefer to be "in-the-know" on this, because I doubt that Coach or anyone else in the program will give the details out publicly.

You do realize that's just about the exact definition of gossip?

Yeah ... we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. As an alum and a fan of BGSU, it's pretty damn embarrassing to see this video. It's definitely a big deal, and it's most definitely embarrassing for those players, the football program, the athletic department and anyone trying to act like it's not a big deal.

Again, that's fair. I apologize for giving this site (which serves the purpose of not gossiping, but discussing and speculating, I guess? That's kind the whole point of this site, I thought...) the details I heard on a developing story. The story is a big deal to me, and I figured it was a big deal to the rest of you, so I wanted to keep the fan base informed. Next time, I just won't say anything here.

I appreciated the information and took it for what's worth, gossip. Probably more info there than the coach speak we get which will likely say something like we're handling this internally.

I’ve seen it on a few national publications now, including the New York Post. Not great publicity for the school, that’s for sure.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

It looks bad, but is really none of our business. The University will investigate and take action through student conduct if needed. That is how it should go since these are students first. Current privacy laws keep us from knowing what that action is. And I am sure we will not hear anything from the Athletic Department and Football program either. Those corrective actions will not be reported and should not be.

It's frustrating, but isn't "program ending" or anything like that. Move along, nothing to see here.

Do I condone or endorse this kind of behaviour? No.

But in today's climate there were no guns, knives, or female abuse, and additionally no arrests or charges. Not trying to minimize their actions but putting it in context would be helpful and I do trust the athletic department and Coach Jinks to correctly punish those involved.

I stopped counting after 35 newspapers and websites. Even USAToday. It hasn't made it into the newspapers yet here in Wales.

Wilcox got an OVI this past weekend. He was already suspended and had not practiced with the team this spring.

I'm heartbroken for the kid. He has always seemed so pleasant in my interactions with him. He needs to get it together, and I'm praying that he recovers from this as a better man, whether as a Falcon or not.

The program should not tolerate behavior like this but I have a feeling Jinks is going to give him every chance to redeem himself over the summer and into fall camp.

He'll be offered rehab options after he serves his jail time. Won't see the field again.

I like the statement from Mike Jinks. Especially this: "Right now, our concern is for Matt's health and well-being. While he had already been suspended from the program and had not practiced with our team this spring, our primary focus is on providing him with the help he needs."

It's quite possible that Wilcox never sees the field here again, but I respect Jinks for not completely closing that door today. There will be time to make that decision. A little hope could go a long way for Wilcox right now.

I have no doubt that if Wilcox makes the right decisions going forward, he could be on the field again somewhere in FBS and be on his way to earning a college education.
