I don't know if you guys caught my above post, but the Ohio kid is

Brady Minturn, standout Loveland defensive lineman, oral commits to Bowling Green.

Senior 6-6 250 Second team all-state, first team all-district, two-time Enquirer all-star. Had 73 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
"I don't anticipate leaving," Urban Meyer said. "I look forward to being here a long time."

Calling Spart43

Hopefully he comes in with as much hype as fellow Loveland prospect Corey Partridge and moreso hopefully both see the field to live up to their potential. I think with Corey and possibly Marques Parks on the opposite flank next year our offense could be more explosive considering the speed we would put out there. Lett and Jones have more experience, but from what I've heard and read, I feel the ceiling may be higher on Parks and Partridge.

Mr. Partridge (Spart43) can you shed some light on the possible new verbal?

So sorry about missing on when signing day is. I listened to an OSU fan who works with me and he did me wrong. As far as Columbus goes I am not aware of any area players BG has received committments from. It is next to impossible to pick up much info on any players other than who OSU is after. BG has not been a big player in central Ohio for the past couple of years even with some real success in the past. e.g Josh Harris.

I guess we are always surprised when the actual signing list comes out. Part of the intrigue is waiting for some players who perhaps hope to get an offer from a BCS team and may end up signing with a mid-major school at the last minute.

Bobby Thomas of Warrensville Heights is prepared to sign with the Falcons --- according to the Plain Dealer.

Thomas, a standout running back-linebacker for the Tigers, will sign a national letter of intent with Bowling Green, Feb. 2 is the first day of the football signing period.

A two-time all-district and all-state honoree, the 5-11, 203-pound Thomas rushed for a school-best 1,706 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. He also made 87 tackles and was chosen as the LEL Erie Division Player of the Year. He set a Tigers single-game mark for rushing yards with 325 against Southview and finished as the school's all-time leading ground gainer with 4,079 yards.

I have watched brady play for two years now. His best year was his junior year. He had better talent around him which freed him up quite abit. This year offenses knew that they just needed to stop him to move the ball against Loveland. He saw a huge amount of double teams. So he didn't live up to all the hype this past year.

As for an evaluation: He is a good athlete and runs very well. I don't have a timing on him but I have seen his game speed and it is good for a lineman. He could maybe even move into a linebacker role and do very well. He will need to add some muscle/strength to be a good DL at this level. Appears to be an intelligent player and coachable. He could be an assest to BG by his third year if he can add the weight and strength. He is at a good starting size now for an incoming freshman, but doesn't appear to be 250, last I saw him on the field. Hopefully he has added some weight since the season.

Hope that helps.

I didn't see Thomas play this past year, but did see him play (against Garfield Hts.) the previous 2 yrs.,as a soph and jr. very quick and explosive runner, who's low to the ground... similar in size to PJ...not sure if he's got the same type hands, but could be a real plus in RB depth... Too smallish to play the LB slot IMHO, but a definite special teams man early on and hopefully give us the depth at RB behind Dan Macon etc. in a couple of years.

That our coaches are doing everthing they can to land that CJ Davis kid. A 6'5 300 pounder for the D-line is a major need right now. We could really use this kid. With all the defensive lineman that we've lost to certain circumstances or whatever , we need alot of good d-lineman in this class.

As a freshman he's still bigger than most if not all of our starting DT's from last year. The guys we have now need to hit the weights hard this winter and spring.

Weight and height tell me knothing about his ability. I will believe that he is good, and his needed by the team if/when he proves it on the field. We should recruit talent before size

And much to the chagrin of others I will continue to argue that size IS a talent when you're talking about interior defensive linemen.

Going bigger is nice, if the quality is there. I'll take a more talented athlete over the bigger athlete every time. (and I'm not discounting the importance of size) It's like a bad pair of implants on a stripper...sure they're bigger, but aren't the smaller ones on the other stripper more appealing?

Well personally I do prefer smaller breasts anyways. My #1 rule of strip clubs is: No dollars for implants. #2 has to do with razors, but I digress...

However, I'm not sure the analogy fits. I think it is simple laws of physics that it is more difficult to push more weight. Supposedly our DTs rely on speed to shoot a gap and make a play in the backfield, and that's fine, but just once I'd like to see the type of lineman that can clog the middle to let the LBs make plays.

Tony Siragusa, Sam Adams, Gilbert Brown, these guys were not quick, but they all have Super Bowl rings. When it comes to the DT position size can be a talent.

I'm with Hammb on this one . . . We've discussed this topic several times at nauseum and it is my belief our line is simply not big enough against the top tier competition to stop the run.

In a fantasy scenario, CJ Davis gives us the Jobba the Hut tackle to eventually move to a 3-4 defense that actually more compliments the athletes we have, but there isn't enough bandwidth for that post . . .
