It'll take a few years to pick up the pieces from this hire. The task now turns to Moose selling a coach on rebuilding a program, and setting realistic expectations.

It's an attractive job. Meyer, clawson and babers all getting paid quite nicely now.

I wish coach Jinks all the best in the future. Unfortunately, this team was making all of the wrong strides. They were regressing each year in wins, but their play was starting to look decent this year.

I still believe Babers put this team in a hole when he left. I didn’t like the Babers hire from the first team meeting he held. Unfortunately, this is all about wins and losses. Jinks wasn’t winning.

I’m not surprised on his firing. Think that’s been pretty obvious something was going to happen. But I thought they’d wait to end of season. Could be the damage to recruiting is in mindset of powers that be. But how will they approach getting the next head coach?
Even the new defensive coaching staff hasn’t been able to get very far in changing the defensive problems. How will this affect Pellini’s future beyond this year?
Thought Brandon Harris comments were another indictment of the coaching situation. He mentioned the need for tougher practices so that we don’t fold under pressure due to physical exhaustion etc. this from our best defensive player ( IMO) 20 tackles yesterday. Great effort!

This is about more than wins or losses. It's about righting the culture of the program. This past spring and summer was dreadful. You have three recruiting classes that only know losing football. This past Saturday was case in point of that. Up 28-14 midway through the 3rd quarter and you lose by 7.

Babers has nothing to do with this. Jinks took a team picked to win the East in 2016 and barely squeaked out 4 wins. Just a harbinger of things to come. It's time everyone put that excuse to bed.

I'd take the Babers hire again in a heart beat. Two great seasons with a MAC Championship mixed in. How's that a hole? I get that he did it mostly with Clawson holdovers, but his offensive scheme took those teams to a different level.

His first recruiting class was basically a wash after getting the job in December. His second, and last class was average. That's not a hole that's just a product of a coaching change at a MAC program.

I hate it when people blame the exiting coach for the problems in the program going forward. Coaches in the MAC leave for better jobs. That's a reality. I can't begrudge them success.

Needed to find a coach who could have kept that momentum going. Jinks obviously wasn't that guy. Now the next coach's job will be even a little harder with a little of a rebuild on his hands. Hope Moose picks the right guy. You usually can tell in the first year if we got the right guy. Time will tell.

SB Nation is reporting that Texas state is close to firing its coach. They are suggesting that Mike Jinks has that job if he wants it. If he accepts that job BG won't have to pay him as much.

They clearly haven’t been watching BG football the last 2 and half years. I get that he is from Texas but they may be the only FBS program worse than us at the moment. Don’t know why they would want Jinks

They can have him if they want. Maybe he needs to be in Texas.
I figured he would go back to high school coaching in Texas at one of the major programs. Then springboard from there back into college. Go back to his roots.

As someone who is quite frequently watching from the sidelines I have to say this had to be done. Players frequently complaining about play calls, Doege looks disconnected from his teammates and a lack of organization overall. It's noticeable how many times the wrong player runs out on a quick package change only to run back to the sideline. It's a shame because Mike is a great guy, but this team was really poorly coached and that isn't acceptable for a program which has been perennially been one of the best in the MAC

Well said. BGSU is a proud and tradition rich program. We expect to win and play for titles. It just didn't work and I, too, like Mike. He's a good dude.

It may be sooner than that. We have talent, no question. The MAC is down right now...I mean it could be Buffalo and EMU in the MAC title game. Wait, what?
