BC was 42nd while playing P5 defenses. We were 98th against MAC defenses.

I'll take the improvement.

Some people on this board are impossible to please.

Loeffler checks off almost all the boxes that BG needs to be successful. Time will tell if he can translate that to success. Comparing him to other hires is a fruitless effort.

Florida St #114 scoring offense

No way BG was least attractive opening!

Akron, CMU and UMass below BG.

FYI, I don't know if this is a bad hire or not. I don't really care. I will pay attention if they get good and won't if they don't. I do know coaching at BG is a terrible job; very few fans, very few resources, terrible environment, tough place to live unless you're from here, tough place to recruit to due to weather and city size. Former success has almost nothing to do with the current product. Recruits are not coming here because BG won the MAC title when they were 13.

CMU just hired the former head coach at Florida. I think they are doing ok.
Akron is a major city that people might want to be in.
Umass is the same. https://www.gazettenet.com/UMass-AD-Bam ... l-21991774" target="_blank

If you would rather live in Akron than Bowling Green, I don’t just question your intelligence, but also your sanity!

The best coaches turn perceived negatives into positives. You can choose to live life with a "glass half empty" mentality or "glass half full".

Very few fans -- Just as many fans as most other MAC schools, and that's despite 3 wins a season for the last 3 years
Terrible environment -- Compared to most of the other MAC schools? No difference. In fact, way better environment than places like Akron that have an oversized stadium that is cavernous and feels empty no matter how many fans they put in there
Tough place to live unless you're from here -- Don't know what that means, but I didn't grow up here. And I love it.
Tough place to recruit due to weather -- Some of the greatest spring, summer and fall in the country. Ask those Texas kids how those 110 degree summers feel.
Tough to recruit due to city size -- Unless you love small town atmosphere.
Recruits won't come because BG won the MAC title when they were 13 -- Recent success is better than no success (Akron, UMass, Charlotte, Kansas). And the age of 13 is right in those kids wheel house for sports watching. They know more about BG than Akron or UMass or the others that win 2 games every season.

All of it is just excuses. And a great coach won't let those excuses be reasons why you can't win. They will turn them into positive momentum to build success. Just look around. MAC Championship teams (or at least competing for championships) all fall long. A structure in place that breeds success in the department. Graduation rates at the top of the MAC. Community service that is bar none. Opportunity for national exposure that is way higher than the other mid major conferences. The entire recipe is RIGHT HERE for success. There's NOTHING holding anyone back from winning at BG.

Or to put it another way...in roughly the top third. That's terrible to you?

That ranks 42nd in the country.
When he took over, they were dead last. Dead last to 42nd. Three years. Talk about leaving a place better than you found it. BG needs that kind of improvement.

I am not sure an 18 year old from a big city is super excited about the Tractor pull and conservative politicians. And nothing to do on the weekends.
