vs. Murray State (9/18)
Re: vs. Murray State (9/18)
San Neverov announced that he has medically retired. Feel terrible for that guy. Very talented and hard worker and gave a lot to BG. Best of luck to him moving forward.

Which means if this game was being played on a neutral field, Vegas would essentially be calling this a pick/even. That’s about where I stand with it and have no problem idea who is going to win.
GO BG!!!
Re: vs. Murray State (9/18)
That’s another really tough loss to a position we’re already way, way, way under experienced and beyond extremely thin. He has more experienced than our entire starting OL combined is.
GO BG!!!

Bleacher Report picked this game as the most likely FCS over FBS "upset" of the week.

Not out of the realm of possibility. This board will be in meltdown mode if it happens and I think you'll start to see Loeffler's name pop up as a hot seat candidate.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: vs. Murray State (9/18)
Loeffler has been on the hot seat since last year. Most fans I know are strongly in the “it’s only a matter of time” camp. Everyone also knows BG can’t afford it, the hope is he recruits well enough so the next coach isn’t completely starting from scratch.

He's definitely been on the hot seat with the majority of fans. As for the administration that signs his paycheck, that's a different story. I don't think they are planning to have him walk the plank any time soon.
Re: vs. Murray State (9/18)
No one is happy to be sitting at 0-2, but the thing that sticks with me is that the players seem to be competing harder than they have in recent years. Jinks clearly lost the team and the effort on the field just wasn't there. I don't see that as being the case with where we are now. Hopefully, we don't get there and if we can show some results by getting a few wins, then I doubt these guys will throw in the towel on the season.
We are not going to win much this year, but the defense plays hard, they are young and will improve. The young O-line is going to get better as they get stronger and gain experience. I see a receiving group that's an improved unit over anything Loeffler has had in the last couple years. My biggest worry for the future is QB. It's only 2 games, but Mcdonald has really surprised me with his play. I would have never said at any point last year that he could have ever looked the way he has 2 weeks in. But if this team is going to step forward to truly compete in this league in the next couple years, a competent QB has got to be developed or brought in. I have no idea if that is happening right now.

The above pretty much nails it. Team is playing hard. That shows positive development.
Barring a catastrophic meltdown, Loeffler is safe for this year. It is next year where he really has to show something. Hell, he set the standard to which he should be judged himself. 2022 should be a competitive team, 2023 should win a conference title.

Note that the only area of marked improvement is the Defense. The new D Coordinator is illustration that we have talent, (a lot of 2019 and older-not recent rock stars) and it is Coaching that made the difference. Loeffler isn’t giving up the offense, and he is not good at it, nor are his assistants. There is a growing faction of players that just may hit the streets in December. Lots of head scratching moves angering/ mystifying players…. Mostly from the last two most recent classes…. If the train derails, we lose at least 10.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Loeffler belongs with Jim up in Ann Arbor running the old school, antiquated offensive schemes. We're at the point where kids are going to transfer out now regardless of any issues due to the rules. Can't keep 100+ kids happy and the grass isn't always greener.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 2:10 pm Note that the only area of marked improvement is the Defense. Hmmm, so if up to 10 players leave, it's not cause of Loeffler weeding out players not buying into his system??

I had to re-read it, then saw that you quoted HIM setting standard for winning the MAC…. Ha!MarkL wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 1:17 pm The above pretty much nails it. Team is playing hard. That shows positive development.

I was going to say, we are crossing our fingers to get a win against a Non-Top 25 FCS team…. That’s a loooong way to a MAC title in two years …..
That said, he is likely safe….. unless, Kit Hughes comes through with a replacement?!?

Re: vs. Murray State (9/18)
A lot of it was. And many deserved to go, regardless of him…. Let’s not relive the smokers, fighters, 1.0 GPAS among them…..
The problem now, as you are pointing to with me for what I have said in defense, is kids that do what is asked are disgruntled by head scratching moves that affect them….. all of which resulting in NO WINS since 2019.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
