Our AD is out there twisting in the wind...our two main revenue sports are...to be nice...moribund. The department itself is historically underfunded with the gap seemingly growing wider.

What level of commitment does the administration have to D1 athletics

I didn’t take it to mean much. It was a quiet hire, just promoting an assistant (and another alumnus) from within.
Yeah it took forever to name a new coach, especially considering it was internal. I have to imagine Moose's impending move is behind that.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Given Rogers signed a contract extension for Moose as soon as student fees were secured in August 2020, I wouldn't take much stock in Rogers ability to see the big picture regarding athletics. Rogers didn't want that information public either. Thus, why Moose has two more years, and BG doesn't want him. Kit Hughes basically hired a football coach under this leadership.

Another fun fact. Family Weekend this year is October 1st. BGSU football is at Akron.

Well done! Who doesn’t coordinate it around a home football game….FIRST??!!?! A HS freshman marketing class would have been on that from the start.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

I think Family Weekend got squeezed out because of the weird way football’s schedule is set up this year. The first home game being the home opener made it unlikely to be Family Weekend. And then Homecoming is very early this year, too, with it being the 3rd game overall and the 2nd straight weekend with home football. Normally, it would’ve been a weekend in September, but that wasn’t able to be the case this year.

It could’ve been in October, but then you run into Band/Cheer Day and whatnot. I wouldn’t have minded it being October 14-16 weekend, which would’ve included both a Friday night home hockey game and a Saturday home football game.

I would chalk it up to a weird fluke with the schedule and assume it’ll be back to normal next year. But it is super weird to not have that be a home football weekend, though.

Or you could have it on October 8th, and include a home hockey game against Michigan St. with football to sell more tickets. The other option would be October 15th football game, when BG has home hockey the night before on October 14th. A quick check of other MAC schools and they all have Family Weekend tied in with home football.

Back to coaches on the hot seat. I had absolutely no idea Butch Jones was at Arkansas State.

Lmao. Usually one of the more well attended games each year too. How stupid. Wonder what genius came up with that.

Maybe one of the Family Weekend activities/money makers is a charter bus to Akron to watch the football team.

He's only one year in. Kinda hard to put someone on a hot seat when taking over for a down program. Prior coach won a whole bunch of games but in 2020 despite knocking off Kansas State had a bad season. Jones was on my short list of interesting candidates back in 2018. He was a great head coach at both Central Michigan and Cincinnati, though in both cases was following up on Brian Kelly's building efforts.

Yeah - I definitely don't feel that he should be on the 'hot seat' after one year. I just didn't realize he was currently a collegiate head coach.
