Kehres is the only local guy who would check most if not all the boxes as Flip mentioned. Almost all of the top FCS coaches at the moment are out west or in the south.

My top five would be:

Vince Kehres - DC/LB Coach, Toledo
Willie Simmons - HC, Florida A&M
Bob Chesney - HC, Holy Cross
Brent Vigen - HC, Montana State
Jay Hill - HC, Weber State

The last two hires have had zero head coach experience and BG's record in that time is 23-59. If the university is serious about turning things around, they hire someone who has actually proven they can run a program elsewhere.

Good list of candidates, but Troy Taylor is actually at Stanford now. And Kinne is at Texas State now.

I like Kerhes a lot. I think he would have a lot of success here. But would it be weird/unheard of for someone to cross the rivalry line like that?

Matt Campbell was an assistant at BG until 2008 and then went to Toledo to eventually become their head coach.

Tim Beckman was a BG coach then moved around before coaching there.

I'd be curious about Ferris State's head coach, Tony Annese. He's 117-18 there with a pair of D2 national titles. I know D2 is different, but I would at least consider giving the guy an interview to see what he thinks. He has 11 years of HC experience at that level.

Toledo hires from us way more than we hire from them because as a rule...the last 7 years or so aside...our people are better
