I agree...we've had at least 4 coaches bail on us at the end of the year while claiming they were still on the job since 1985. (Stoltz, Meyer, Clawson and Babers) Three of those left us in the lurch at bowl time. So ...I have zero sympathy for SL on this. It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

People buy tickets to come see them play, buy merchandise with the university's name on it because they enjoy the product on the field/court/ice. Kids getting academic scholarships can work and do whatever to get additional supplemental income, why can't athletes? The NCAA has gotten away with it for so long that the stodgy old guard can't bear to witness it be any different. It's the NCAA's fault that we're here, and the ship has sailed on putting rules in place to manage it because they refused to acknowledge the issue in the first place.gspointer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:38 amPaying n the form of a free education and tutoring etc should be enough.guest44 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 8:21 am https://x.com/pres_rogers/status/185063 ... Someone in the media should reach out regarding the “disruption in college athletics”. Is actually paying for the labor the disruption?

Sure then pay them and have them pay their tuition, room and board.
Re: “A lot of crap” going on
No they will eventually have to pay them, on top of tuition in order to be viable in D1 football. Rodney Rogers seems primed to play the victim on the changes.
The Moosbrugger’s get free tuition on top of all the buyout money wasted by Bob on horrible decisions and contracts. Free tuition is one way to pump those enrollment numbers. BGSU is very good at it.

Yes, to your first point. Paying them is an inevitability, along with a unionization. It’s already in the works, it just has to have its turn in the courts. I have no idea what the financial ramifications will be, but I imagine it will come more from the pockets of the media outlets in the long run than universities themselves. Short term will be the real struggle. I’m guessing schools will start requiring athletes to sign two year eligibility contracts.guest44 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:52 am No they will eventually have to pay them, on top of tuition in order to be viable in D1 football. To the rest of your point, I have to, yet again, disagree. Working in higher ed, I can tell you that Rogers is being viewed as one of the best administrators in the nation thanks to the position BG is in with enrollment and student retention. I actually can’t think of a time in recent years that BG has been in a better position with leadership in the president and AD roles.

This guy has crapped on Rodgers (see what I did there?) countless times on this board because he thinks that athletics should run an institution of higher learning, not the other way around. Add this to the list of topics about which he's proudly and purposefully ignorant. BG could grow to 2/3 the size of Ohio State and this guy would still be whining about Rodgers, Moose, and the Con Man.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:21 pmYes, to your first point. I have him on block so I'm spared most of his inane rants, but I see based on the quotes that he hasn't changed one bit.

Re: “A lot of crap” going on
I fully admit I'm speculating here, but after looking some things over from the last few weeks, another guy I'm guessing who could be in the middle of some of the mess that is/was going on is Nick Reimer. The reason I mentioning this is because Reimer started the first 3 games at LT and then was injured. The last few weeks SL talked about getting him back, and it appears he did come back for the Kent State game. But then not only did he not appear in the Toledo game in the next outing, he is now no longer listed on the roster any longer. Now, could there be a bad link for the roster and just needs fixed? Sure. But the reason it seems suspect to me is because Reimer has played in 4 games. Remember, 4 games is the key number for a guy who wants to preserve a redshirt (the number increases if postseason play factors in). SL clearly stated in the presser that they brought the guys up (to Toledo) who wanted to be there. To me, I felt it was a reading between the lines comment about how there were some guys who should have been there and weren't. The reason the Reimer issue could be pretty glaring if he is indeed gone is because it centers around the LT spot. Remember, he transferred to BG to help us fill a void on the OL and won the #1 LT spot. When Reimer was out, Billie Roberts started a pair of game at LT. And now at midseason heading into the Toledo game, not only did both Reimer and Roberts not play, but both are no longer on the roster. Could all this just be nonsense? Sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's something to this.
GO BG!!!

Haha agreed, the dude is absolutely nuts. I wonder if Kit Hughes knows he has a sworn enemy in Bowling Green, OHTalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:31 pm

Re: “A lot of crap” going on
Kit Hughes was once praised by then President Mazey for the Mike Jinks hire. I’d say Kit should be thankful BG has such low standards, and that he is still in college athletics.
