I am really concerned about our defense next season. There are a lot of unproven players and when you go to 2 deep it gets real bad.OptionQB wrote:I will do my best and here we go . . . btw, good news about Lanning- Freak!

DISCLAIMER
This original post smelled of spam that is why some of my guesses were ... ummm out there.... BJ Pope is still a beast in the backfield though!!!
all bowling green
Mack, Winovich, Arnold, and Nicholson haven't proven much to me. That's more than 1/3 of the starters. Add that to our suspect secondary and I worry.OptionQB wrote:Who's unproven in the defense? And the two deep is loaded with RS-Fr but this is one of the better classes in our history athletically, so I think we'll be just fine. I do worry if we can score more than Jordan and Mayberry WILL give up against Boise and teams with athletic receivers.

the defense is obviously what has been holding us back and i agree with sayin our defense is unproven because even the guys that are returning starters didnt prove much last season considering out secondary was bad last year and will get only worse without keon in there to take pressure off of them....we cant expect the offense to score on every possession even though we all know they got that potential but at least we return the bulk of our defense in the middle with piepkow parks williams and thaler

That's no worry at all. Bigger worry is at linebacker and safety. Safeties need to be in position to "help" stop the deep ball and linebackers need to be able to drop back and cover the short stuff (didn't do well in that area last year). The other issue is stopping the running game.OptionQB wrote:Who's unproven in the defense? Overall, we still had a pretty good defense. They held several teams to less than 20 points which is no small feat.
We held a bunch of nobodies under 20 points though.BelieveNBG wrote:That's no worry at all. Bigger worry is at linebacker and safety. Vs. Oklahoma, NIU, Marshall, UT, and Memphis we gave up 40, 34, 35, 49, and 35 respectively. We cannot keep the good teams from scoring 30+ and that is where all three losses took place.

Oklahoma...need I say more.We held a bunch of nobodies under 20 points though.

NIU...our offense was not stellar that day either (7 pts. in one half, 3 in 3rd quarter).
UT...our offense scored a bunch, yes, and then disappeared leaving the defense on a very short field for most of the 2nd half, including turnover and missed field goal at crucial point of game. Yes, the defense had miscues too. Don't forget, UT also scored alot on mostly everybody, including scoring more against NIU than our offense did.
Marshall...defense played well when it counted and got the stops when they needed to. Defense played a darn good 2nd half with 7 of those 15 pts. coming when game was already over.
Memphis has a high scoring offense that scored in bunches against many teams, but they only got 7 in 2nd half when game was over.
