Did one really think that Marshall would do that well? Your Toledo, our Marshall. We hate em.
The mistake may have been bigger. Check out what the AP had to say:

The Dispatch may have gotten its numbers from AP, or vice versa.

Toledo's score just dropped like a 10lb brick from a 30 story building.

That was the footnote with the AP release is that the Dispatch reported the wrong scores. Certainly Toledo ranking so high was the red flag.

Well, I guess it doesn't have to be hockey. It could be volleyball or gymnastics or something, but hockey comes to mind first when thinking about the number of athletes involved.

Just curious why you would assume it was hockey? Given the fact that our hockey team scored a rating of 988 it's obvious that it wasn't. But to further add to the invalidity of your assumption, hockey scored second highest overall in the ncaa ratings (this is for all schools not BG)...first place was gymnastics.

FWIW, the OSU hockey team scored an 892...the LOWEST of all of the NCAA men's hockey teams.

I wasn't trying to imply anything about our hockey team. I appluad them for their outstanding academic achievement. I was just thinking about the sports listed and the quantity of athletes that encompasses. For our average to be so much below those four sports, I was thinking that we must have some sport with a significant number of athletes that could have a serious weight on our average. As I mentioned, it could have been some sports other than hockey and as it turns out, it was.

Trying to make some sense out of the NCAA APR's

Post by factman »

I went ot the NCAA page http://www2.ncaa.org/academics_and_athl ... _data.html

and got the raw data and here it is:
You can look up women's and other sports and schools if you want.

........................D-1 Ave..........BG.............UT

M baseball..........922...............1000.........976
M basketball.......923...............942...........979
XC.....................954...............750...........818

Football..............923...............929...........850

Golf...................961................950...........1000
Ice Hockey..........968...............988...........N/A
Soccer................948................844.......... N/A

OVERALL M & W...948................956..........916

It looks to me as soon as the soccer and XC team are stabilized after dropping the sport and coaching changes, BG should be in VERY good shape and challenge Miami for the top spot in the MAC.
