Totally selfish questions about the schedule
Ball State game
Just an FYI for those considering the trip to Muncie, the Ball State website has the contest with BG listed as a night game with kickoff scheduled for 7:00.

This schedule sucks my big, white, hairy, TOE!!!!! Does the MAC not have a clue? First they put us in the west, where we don't belong. Than they put us back in the east where we do belong, but they screw us with the placement of our home schedule. It's like we are the whipping child because we are successful. We are one of the teams that is keeping this conference in the spotlight. We should be getting our pick of dates. Ok, I think i'm done.....

I concur with your assesment and Miami's is barely better... The two home games in september are nice... but come on now... a home game over break??? Thats just plane insane... at least your homecoming isnt the first game of the season... also did you see that we got stuck with A MONDAY NIGHT GAME... WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO WATCH THAT??? MNF is going to trounce that silly!
So who got a schedule that they like?

Re: Are we getting "screwed"?
As the "schedulemeister", I feel behooved to answer this one. There really was not any choice. We already had Wisc and Boise schedule in Sept and we weren't giving those up. Then when ESPN says they want the Boise game on a weeknight for national TV, we can't pass that up. That left us with only 9/10 as an option. I pointed out several times that ALL Mac teams that we were to play at home this year had OOC games on that weekend EXCEPT UT. So there really wasn't any option for a home game in Sept. Once we moved the Boise game, the handwriting was on the wall.1987alum wrote:How tough would it have been to give us one frickin' home game in September?
So it came down to having a nationally televised game on a weeknight or a home MAC game on 9/24, a week earlier then the Temple game. Which would everyone rather have???

I havent checked Miami(OH)'s schedule, but I assume he means the FIRST game, as in a homecoming on September 3. Ouch.Schadenfreude wrote:Oh, but it is.redskins4ever wrote:at least your homecoming isnt the first game of the season

Well...when you start bending over backwards for TV, these are the consequences. I think it's great to get on TV more, but unfortuanately the trade off is a quirky schedule that puts the screws to the locals who actually go to the games. I was considering making the trip to Muncie, but I don't think I will with a 7pm kick off.

wart, you were right on as expected. We have the big Boise national spotlight game- and it was always going to be a midweek game- so that takes out two September Saturdays. We have the big opener at Wisconsin (which will likely be picked up by TV) and that left us 9/10.
And you so correctly pointed out that there was no MAC team that could be a home game available on that date.
More troubling to me is the home game on fall break weekend. As you can read in the press release, AD Krebs fought this situation very, very hard. You can read how disappointed he is with the MAC in this situation. AD Krebs realizes this is totally unfair to our students. Look for him and the department to attempt to do something to attract/thank those students able to stay and/or come back for the game. Keep in mind that the res halls actually close over fall break. We have 7000 plus students without a local bed to stay in. Upperclassmen are more likely to remain in and around town and some of the more local on campus students (like Toledo etc) will come back for the game 10/8.
I am sure our band, cheerleaders will be right there and, if we have a good record, we should be attracting plenty of interest. But this is a very difficult situation for BG. Personally, I believe the MAC office should have done literally whatever it took to get us home in the MAC 10/15 and away in the MAC 10/8. To be honest, I think a marquee program like ours deserves a little more. I am sure our athletic department feelsthe same way, but the MAC office just couldn't get it done for whatever reasons. Ours is a residential campus and our students should come first in any event.
So, I am hereby sending out the Falcon Signal to all alums and friends of the Falcons: buy your tickets and get into the Doyt. If you are coming for only a couple games due to distance, please make 10/8 Ohio University a priority.
Let's go Falcons! See you in Madison.

UT actually ended up with a decent schedule... the bastards!!!
How many MAC teams are playing Temple?? I think there is at least three...

By that, I assume you mean they got Kansas and Minnesota off their schedule?redskins4ever wrote: UT actually ended up with a decent schedule... the bastards!!!

Would the schools be willing to move it to Friday night? I know this detracts from highschools... however you could keep more students around and they could leave after the next morning for break?
Actually an idea I like even more... move the game to Monday Night... why??? All the students will be back in town from break... they can fire up until kickoff and be hungover for tuesday classes!
