I think they were designed by Schutt, I think it was BG's helmet that I saw a Schutt decal on the back (and its on the chin strap of the helmet in the logo up top here), but I didn't notice any difference in design.
Oh, incidentally, '87... I was out back throwing a burrito around the other day, and I could only imagine if Omar was throwing burritos they would seem like mini-burritos.
