Temple to the MAC, it's well unofficial still.

Discussion of the Falcon football team.

Interestingly, although Western Kentucky is west of most MAC schools, Miami would be one of its closest neighbors.

It's the Journey... wrote:This is terrible! Can we say Contral Florida AGAIN!!!!! After all the good things the MAC has done the past few years this is a great way to shoot it all in the head. Name one well respected conference that has a school that is a member in only one sport. Talk about a step back.
I'm not a fan of all the movement and unrest either, but I don't think adding Temple would be another UCF. When UCF came into the league, they already had pre-disposed notions of moving elswhere. Temple has already been kicked out of one conference, so they should be looking to stay put in the MAC. If we could persuade them to join in basketball, that would be huge. Adding Temple and Western Kentukcy would put the MAC's "mid-major" status in basketball in seroius jeopardy. Couple of perennial NCAA Tourney teams there.

There are many forces at work. If the Big East implodes as some expect, Temple will certainly be looking to take advantage of whatever rises from the ashses. The MAC is not likely their long-term solution.

I think that's a big overstatement. How many times have each of these teams been in the NCAA tourney over the past 10 years?

If the Big East had any interest whatsoever in Temple, they wouldn't have given them the boot. They were down to five members and they still refused to reconsider kicking Temple out.

I'm sure Temple wants back in the Big East.

We'd like to join the Big Ten.

I'm not sitting up at night thinking about either possibility.

Over the past 25 years, Western Kentucky played in the NCAA tournament in: 1980, 1981, 1986, 1987, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Temple
Last five years = 1 time (2000)
Previous 10 years = 10 times

WKU
Last five years = 3 times? I think 3 in a row from 2001-2003

Also, here's a little write up on Temple's sports history. I think the article is a little dated (2000 maybe)

Quite a bit more success than we've had in basketball I'll say.
