since I have nothing better to do, I just mapquested the distance from Main/Wooster to S. College/Wooster against S. College/Wooster to Campbell Hill/Wooster (only to keep it in straight lines, and because "stadium drive" put me out somewhere by the H.S.)kdog27 wrote:They already have two large dormitories within a close distance. Anyone who does not go to a football game because of the "great distance" defines the word lazy to me.
.59 miles to downtown from S. College/Wooster, .81 miles to Campbell Hill/E Wooster
And considering most of the on campus housing is well on the stadium side of S. College/Wooster, its even more even.
Always nice to break out some numbers when kicking Mr. Ed.

And yet I travel 5 hours from Lexington to go to BG games. It simply demonstrates the level of commitment and enthusiasm for BG football. My honest opinion is that moving a few dorms or classrooms closer to the Doyt would not remedy your friends commitment level to watching the football team. In terms of aesthetics, BG has few projects in the works to make the 1/2 mile walk to the stadium a little more visually appealing, i.e. the walkway acroos Mercer and through campus. The logistics of what this thread proposes are neither realistic nor germane. I do find the idea interesting, but at best BG can only fill the gaps in the campus landscape to increase the visual backdrop on the way to the stadium. There is only so much that can be done with a University budget.Germainfitch1 wrote:Do students go now?UK Peregrine wrote:Ughh, me likey pretty shiny things. Stadium close campus good. I have had a ton of friends that wouldnt go just because it was all the way on the other side of town.

I am coming from West Lafayette, IN to see games and i am a student at Purdue. So i dont want to hear that BG students cant make it to home games FOR FREE b/c its too far away when i am coming from a good 4hrs+ away. I can't wait to see SEBO go up!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

thats the right attitude. Whose football stadium is next door to the dorms anyways. I haven't been on a campus with regular (non-athletic) buildings within 1/4 a mile of the stadium.BGSUFootballFan wrote:I am coming from West Lafayette, IN to see games and i am a student at Purdue. So those 2 giant towers full of kids, MAc and founders arent most of on campus housing? I beg to differTG1996 wrote:since I have nothing better to do, I just mapquested the distance from Main/Wooster to S. College/Wooster against S. This was not a proposal to drop everything raise a billion dollars and change BG as we know it. It was an idea that if we are adding lets say a new building for Psychology or something why not put it out by the football stadium. Why not build around the stadium and make it part of campus instead of all the way on the other side of wear most students live.
Besides campbell hill the largest off campus apartments are on merry street and N. Enterprise. The largest dorms are the towers, Mac and founders. I never even had to go over to the other side for anything but the Rec. I didnt even know what conklin was called until I graduated and said whats that building they are working on. I love the look of BG around Williams hall, founders and university and the union. Everywhere else its square buildings and ugly. Even the attempts of the library, music building and rec to look different are still square and ugly.
On another note: The library has this huge area where people could sit easily and study but how often do you see people there? In fact how often do you see people just hanging out anywhere. I once had a professor that has sense moved on who on one sunny day said to me that "it actually seems like a real school out there." Its just not a pleasing environment. and yes I know they are trying but that doesnt mean they cant try harder.
Just curious?why did they gutt a pond when ponds are generally some of the best things aesthetically?

My point exactly, condition people to walk that far and they wont have a problem doing it for football on a day when they are usually hung over.PGY Tiercel wrote:haven't been to OSU. Mac and Founders are still less than a mile from the stadium and except for the really fat and slow, probably take less than 20 minutes to walk from.
ANd besides someone made the statement theat most on campus housing was on hte other side, thats false.

Not when some ponds are only ~1ft of water over 3-4 ft of mud (I know I've been in one). The changes the made between kreischer/ harshman shoul be very nice as the trees grow.Germainfitch1 wrote:

the only problem is that it is a rather large distance when you are talking about moving academic departments. I would rather classroom buildings be added around the main campus, maybe out towards the technology building area. However if new dorms are built I think they should be in that area of intramural fields and closer to the stadium.

Yes I noticed the area above the first floor of the library the last time I was in BG. I never really noticed while I was a student but it is really ugly. It has potential to look quite nice but they have pretty much let it all go to crap.Germainfitch1 wrote: On another note: The library has this huge area where people could sit easily and study but how often do you see people there? If you are referring to what I said, I never said that was where the majority of housing was. I said two main dorms are over there. Harshman and Kreisher. However, when it comes down to it not even MAC and Offenhauer are all that far away. It's no worse than walking to the bars.

Yes that cement patio area is ugly. I think the only time I have seen it used is for ROTC functions. Larger planters (for small trees, flowers) and more functional tables would be a good start.
I only used that area once, late one night a long time ago, that is where my wife and I had our discussion about what to do with her very unexpected pregnancy. (they keep happening too)
