What football program does sustain a .700 winning percentage forever? Very few. To me, the mediocrity was the exception. With the exception of Blackney's last year, we were always like 5-6. We didn't get EMU bad. Think about it from this perspective - the last 15 seasons, 8 have been winning, and next year looks pretty good.Lord_Byron wrote:Who among us hasn't had the thought that Falconz raised?

9/16 is a winning tradition to me.

Can't speak to the latter, but in the 80s Kyle Kramer, Brian McClure and, I think, Martin Bayless were all drafted. Greg Meehan went UDFA with the Bengals, Stu Tolle with the Browns, though neither stuck, if memory serves.Falcon30 wrote:How many Heisman candidates and NFL draft picks did we have then? There are a number of differences between those stretches and the current situation, but it wouldn't take much going wrong for BG to go back to mediocrity. IMO, the next three years - not just '05 - will tell the tale.

Going back to what I said before about the internet and weekday games. Our name is bigger now than it ever was and we still have not won that MACC. A lot of people around here act like that is the absolute key to success, they are always like "yeah but...". I agree that it helps, but we are thought of as just as high if not higher than Miami, Marshall, and UT. ...don't get me wrong I think we should be winning championships.
Had we just been a 9-3 team in 1994 nobody would have heard of us, in 2004 we were 9-3 and lots of people are talking about us for 2005. That is what I think the biggest difference is.

And looking back to 2000, 4 of the 9 losses (Buffalo, Ohio, Akron, Marshall) were lost in the 4th quarter after BG led! We could have easily been 6-5 or 7-4. We got drilled by Michigan, Pitt, Temple and Toledo. Lost a 24-10 decision at Miami.Falcon30 wrote:What football program does sustain a .700 winning percentage forever? Very few. It wasn't like BG was horrible...
We lost to Buffalo by 3, Akron by 6, Marshall by 7 and Ohio by 2...the last 3 games at home.

Miami is #15 and CMU is #23...we will pass the Chippewas very soon.
BG has a rich and successful tradition. I am very proud of our all time record.

If that's the Temple game I attended at Franklin Field, it was one of the ugliest, most uninspired Falcon efforts I ever witnessed. Last year's game more than made up for it, though.
My favorite Noah quote of that day: "This is the greatest football game I have ever seen."

I believe the final was 31-14. I listened to the whole game over the net and it sounded very ugly.

Re: Paul Krebs
I think my esteemed friend meant to include the word "think" in this previous post, and if that is the case, I totally agree. Paul Krebs is perhaps the best leader all of Falcon sports, not just football, has ever known. He has done so much for so many of our programs working with very few assets (in terms of facilities). Paul is a wonderful man, and it is great for us that we have alumni like him to lead us into the future.Falcon Commander wrote:Don't forget about the Captain of the Falcon ship now, either . . .
