After thinking about it, I agree with BGFan that any "home" games for BG should be at the Doyt rather than at an NFL site.

I'd rather sell out the Doyt than have 50,000 at Ford Field.

There are several reasons, but here are a few.

1-We should have the Sebo by then and the Doyt should look good to fans and hopefully on TV. Who knows, with a Big 10 team coming, the University might even undertake some additional improvements.

2-Wouldn't it be great if fans at the game and watching on TV would be able to see construction underway on a new Convocation Center?

3-Clearly this should create student interest, especially against one of the better Big 10 teams.

4-And it would be a way to draw new and hopefully permanent fans. Maybe it would increase season ticket sales

5-It would be another step towards showing that BG's program both on and off the field deserves national recognition.

Salsa - I agree with you. I remember the frenzy when Michigan State came to Anderson Arena. It would be great to have that same buzz in the Doyt.

HOWEVER - I don't think the choice is home at the Doyt or at an NFL stadium. I think if we want them at home at all, it is at a bigger venue. I wish we would need a second deck on the home side. a 40K+ stadium would be enough, imho.

J4Heisman,
I DO believe we're scheduled to play OSU in 2010 again...so the fear of "another shot" shouldn't be a problem...it's there, just farther away than we'd hope for now.... To be honest, OSU should be loaded this year, but I hope Miami gives them a strong run in the season opener... No regular starter at QB for OSU, a BIG game with Texas right afterward.... I like Miami's chances, assuming a solid effort with few mistakes.

Few Mistakes... anyone care to watch some tape of last year? I think BG has the best chance of any MAC team to beat a B11 school....

I wanted to throw Matt Hayes's (Sporting News) take on the 12th game contract between the MAC and Big11 out there for everyone to view. Matt doesn't bring up anything new to us, but he does present a nice commentary summing up the sentiments contained within this thread. One specifically is which Big11 teams will actually come to MAC stadiums.

The Big Ten and MAC are set to sign a scheduling deal that will increase the number of games between the leagues' teams and further dilute the 12-game schedule when it begins in 2006. The contract will run from 2006 to 2009, and--get this--MAC commissioner Rick Chryst says his league will adapt its conference schedule so its open dates coincide with open dates for Big Ten teams. How much more do mid-majors have to sell out to make money? Here's the best part: Chryst says the MAC will get home games out of the deal. What are the odds those home games will include the Big Ten's Big Three: Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State? Have fun filling those seats when Indiana and Northwestern come to town. . . .
