Re: That's stupid...
It isn't meant to condenscend. It is meant to help women who want a greater appreciation of football get one.Ineedbotox wrote:I mean, are there that many women who grew up ignorant of football? I think that's very condescending & patronizing. Personally, I have grown up around football my whole life, and don't need the BG coaching staff to tell me what football's all about. I am just as big a football fan as my husband & he played it half his life. Stupid, very stupid!
Football can be tough to understand unless you play it. Obviously, that didn't make much difference for you, Botox, but it does make a difference for others.
My mother can't stand football, and she doesn't understand it in the least.
If my father was as nuts over Falcon football as I was, my mother would probably go to one of those things.

So what about all the guys out there (including probably 85% of this board) who never played competitive football? Is there a Falcon night for them?Schadenfreude wrote:It isn't meant to condenscend. Is this "clinic" different than the "Women For Falcon Football" that has been meeting the past couple years?
My girlfriend went to a "Women For..." last season and was bitterly dissappointed. She loves to watch football and enjoys BGSU and Browns games, but she doesn't understand the finer points like a screen pass, illegal procedure, when you go for it on 4th down, why a kick off is a free ball after ten yards but a punt isn't...
So she went to a "Women for" at Quarters at the mall and found that it was more an ooogling session over Cole Magner''s physique and who does Omar's hair rather than finding out about football.
She really wants to learn and I think a session explaining some of the things mentioned above would be good, but she doesn't want to go and oogle the players. . .
Anyone know if this will be more informative than an eye candy session?

You're not allowed to "ZING" your own comment... sorry. The ZING must be awareded by an impartial observer. You have violated the rules of the covenant of the ZING.Ineedbotox wrote:Yeah, that would be A LOT of work, considering how often you are wrong :ZING:Flipper wrote:Botox, You do realize that as a moderator I can edit most of your posts to read "Flipper is always right". But that would be an abuse of power and frankly, more work than I care to commit to.
Flipper, please edit her post!

Re: That's stupid...
When they first unveiled this, they called it "Falcon Football for Ladies" or something like that. I didn't think "ladies" was the right word. It seemed a little too old fashioned, and it seemed to condenscend. I think I even wrote a letter expressing that view to whoever was the coach at the time.Ineedbotox wrote:So what about all the guys out there (including probably 85% of this board) who never played competitive football? Now they say "women," and that's better.
I'm a feminist. And I don't have a problem with this. I know the women in my life and I know many of them would appreciate the chance to better understand football.
They could invite men into the room. I get that. But I don't think it would be the same. I don't think the nonmen in the room would have the same comfort level.
