I agree that it is great to see in-depth coverage. A couple of things from my point of view...
Macon should be red-shirted. I red-shirted him on NCAA 06 and I think it would be wise to give him two years to shine.
I had heard that young Magner would be a DB as well, but I guess we'll see.
It is great to hear that Brandon wants to stick around.

BGSU Class of '07
Just a few thoughts...
Brandon's comments about being happy at BG for as long as we'll have him are nice. It is the right thing to say about any employer. It would be foolish for him to say "I am looking to go to the school that offers me the biggest contract..." So take that with a grain of salt.
Interesting that Brandon mentioned that he still might move Lichtensteiger to center. Sounds to me like he is lacking confidence in Lanning and Culp.
I think the editing was somewhat poor. Some things seem out of order. The wide receiver section was really hard to follow. How does Sanders not get mentioned except for practically a footnote after the incoming freshmen are listed?
In the DB section, it says "Four freshmen enter the mix in Thomas, cornerbacks Chris Wright (5-10, 175) from Middletown (Ohio) and Antonio Smith (5-10, 175) from Miami Central (Fla.), and Calvin Wiley (5-11, 185) from Notre Dame (Mich.)." Who is the Thomas guy? There isn't any mention of a Thomas earlier in the DB section.

I think they did the same thing with Corey Partridge in the WR section... These articles are like they toss an intern a sheet full of scribbled-down notes and see if they can put it together.Warthog wrote:In the DB section, it says "Four freshmen enter the mix in Thomas, cornerbacks Chris Wright (5-10, 175) from Middletown (Ohio) and Antonio Smith (5-10, 175) from Miami Central (Fla.), and Calvin Wiley (5-11, 185) from Notre Dame (Mich.)." When I spoke to Coach Brandon at the BG/UT hoops game last winter, I asked him about moving Lichtensteiger over to Center. He basically said John Lanning was "gonna be a beast" at Center and Kory would stay at guard. Things might be different now.
Good article overall, IMO. Only 907 hours to go.

Yeah, I saw that, too! Finishing 2nd with that leads me to believe those Texas Tech QB's and wideouts can really play some pitch and catchmk455 wrote:holy crap!! 40,002 yards! And the Falcons still have the Conference Player of the Year in quarterback Omar Jacobs, a junior who only led the nation with 41 touchdowns passes and finished second with 4,0002 yards in his first season.

Nick's scholarship was withdrawn. He is no longer on the roster. It is unclear as to whether he plans to attend BG or attend school elsewhere. I would guess that he could try to walk-on down the road, and a big if here, IF he satisfies any and all of the coaches concerns about his conviction.Redwingtom wrote:The article still mentions Nick Lawrence, but did we ever get confirmation that his scholarship was pulled and he will not be here?

After some quick work on bgsu.edu I came accross this listing on the BGSUFalcons website (a player bio for Lawrence):UK Peregrine wrote:Nick's scholarship was withdrawn. Not on the posted roster, but neither is Rhett Magner who also has a "hidden" bio page like this one.
Also, a quick directory search of bgsu.edu shows a Nicholas M. Lawrence of Brighton, MI enrolled at BGSU. . . .

I see what he's getting at.UK Peregrine wrote:Not sure what your trying to get at DD. Did you glance at the article I posted above? JD Campbell confirmed Wednesday what I just posted about Lawrence tonight.
Read J.D.'s quote:
"He's not on our roster at this time, and he is not receiving an athletic scholarship in the fall," J.D. Campbell, assistant athletic director for communications at BGSU, confirmed Wednesday.
Notice what J.D. did not say:
"Nick will not play here."
"Nick will not receive an athletic scholarship here."
I'd guess DD is right. Nick probably does plan to attend Bowling Green.
Maybe, if Nick walks the absolute straight and narrow this fall, coaches are leaving open the possibility of offering him a scholarship later.
I don't have a problem with that.
I mean, considering the charges, I'd make him pee in a cup weekly. But that's between Brandon and Nick. I trust Brandon judgment on this, pretty much.
I was impressed with the way Nick handled himself in the paper. He assumed a whole lot of responsibility for what happened. Granted, his mom is the mayor -- probably has a sense for what people want to hear. But, still, it was impressive.

Yeah, I'm a little slow this evening. I went to take a shower and it dawned on me then that DD was actually trying confirm my suspicion that Nick was going to walk-on. I don't think it's just a coincidence that Nick Lawrence is leaving home to attend an undisclosed college around August 6th.Schadenfreude wrote: I see what he's getting at.
