Why change it? That is just going to be confusing to readers that want to check the site on a daily/weekly basis.

In my opinion, the background needs to be fixed so it all flows together. Right now, where it goes from image to background is just too noticeable for a design like that. Also, make the words Bowling Green show up completely...I don't get why the B and the N are cut off. Also, I'd try to use iFrames if you are going to have a picture like that on the homepage! Don't have the links from the homepage going to pages that don't even look similar to the homepage. Having an iFrame down in the bottom right where the white space is that changes for every link would be freakin' tremendous.

Things need to look consistent when doing web design. The only pages I see that have consistency...every one of them that isn't the homepage. They all look like blogs even if they aren't. If you can't keep the pages within a site consistent, how can one even think to change the homepage every week?

One thing that I don't understand is why the main page design isn't on all the other pages, either. For example, when you click on Statistics at the top of the main page, it brings you to a new page that lists the navigational links on the side and has the content there by itself. In my opinion, that looks kind of dull.

My suggest is to use SSI for the other pages, that is an easy way to get the design showing on every page. Unfortunately, I don't know where this site is hosted and not all hosts support SSI. It's very easy though and if you can find that your host does support it, I wouldn't mind getting the SSI set up for you.

My final suggestion is to center the page horizontally. That is easily done by putting the <center> and </center> tags at the beginning and end of your <BODY> section of the HTML. I would guess that would make it look nicer, though I'm not certain on this page with Omar's shoulder being cut off...I'm not sure how the brown would blend in with that on the left side.

The only template "change" I thought about is if the picture of Omar would be different for each section.

Frontal shot as it is now on the home page.
shot of Omar throwing on the Stats page
Holding the GMAC trophy on an "Accomplishments/Awards" page
etc...

Don't know how much work it would take to get that replaced in the sliced up versions, but it doesn't look like the body shots get sliced more than a couple times and they're "out of the way", so the images could be easily replaceable, without even having to run them all through a slicing program.

And adding a "ring" of brown around the outside to blend into a background would probably also make it easier to include the full picture down the side, thus taking away some of the "boxy" look.

Just a suggestion (or six), keep it coming!

i wasn't talking about changing the entire image on the front, i was talking about changing the top where it says bowling green. like this

As for the rest of the site....i agree, there needs to be consistancy....when i made the design comp, i had inmind that all of the info would be placed inside of an iframe, except for the message board (for obvious reasons). if help is needed to get this done, i am more than willing.

One more thing (for the momment)...

Why?

"This site is not affiliated with BGSU, has not be authorized or endorsed by BGSU, and is not even the butt of jokes by people working at BGSU. Heck nobody from BGSU even asked me to add a disclaimer. Any linked from it should not be assumed as being official either."

Do you want this page to be serious?

Some people need to put things in context, and some others need to understand a few things here. It isn’t as though most of us aren’t aware of the sites short-comings, relative to other sites and such. It is a matter of having the time and ability to do more.

I haven't tried to pass the site nor my personal skills off as state of the art. I planted the flag and called for any help or volunteers that would get involved. The help I've gotten, I've applied directly to the site. This site isn’t intended to be a one-man-show, and increasingly it isn’t.

XtotheZ was good enough to suggest a direction with his graphics. What I had to work with I used. It was a better front page than what we had, but should not be thought of as the start and end of the site.

DD is letting me use his banners, which I noted to him at the start of this, was only to function as a stop-gap until somebody-which is not and won't be me, can come up with anything better. The original site is a bit low-key and blan, the banners were intended to provide something to look at until and if anything better was available.

Others are working on stats articles and comparison pieces.

I'll be coordinating this more extensively on the email group, anybody willing to either lend constructive suggestions is welcome to PM me to join. I hope to get a solid timeline in place before the weekend, which is when I’ll go back through and revamp the site using whatever else is provided.

Looking over the feedback, give or take whatever Metz says, I think we have something we didn't a few weeks ago. That is a direction for the coming months.

I think there needs to be some kind of consistent headline graphic or graphics for the individual pages.

A few sections need to be added. I would like to see the front page be the portal to the site, not the main interface. That lets us take down and add things more freely.

XtotheZ locked onto what I was thinking about in terms of changing the front page each week. I’m not looking to re-invent the site each week, but within a mostly consistent style, draw people back by giving them new eye-candy consistently.

No one of us can do all of this alone, and frankly it’s a tribute to our fan base that half a dozen of us are willing to contribute personal time, money, and effort to do this, as opposed to just a single person.

I'm just giving constructive criticism. Like I also said in a different thread, at least you are taking the initiative to do it.

I take that at face value, though I've been trying to convey that your comments come across with an edge that is a bit crass or sarcastic.

In any event if you want to assist in providing insight, feel free to PM an email I can use to sign you up for the email group. The point of that forum is to avoid debates that get more attention than point of the site itself.
