I figure those two cancel one another out, and equal a BAD outing for a guy trying to make the team. I'm still rooting for him, but the fact is the rookie Charlie Frye looks way more poised, and much better than Harris right nowBG_Kiwi wrote:Harris nearly had a passing TD, but the receiver (Alston?) dropped the pass.
You're probably right, but in Harris' defense, he had to overcom a variety of penalties and screwups from his teamates...still got them into position for the winning FG.... but his accuracy definitely will be questioned.... After what's happened in the Bear's camp, there might be a spot open there too...assuming he doesn't make the Browns.... I was hoping they'd give him at least one more series to show something, but I understand the need to look at Campbell too.

I thought Frye looked ok but the Browns were clearly calling plays to help him....ie rollouts. When J5 was in, they had him in the pocket almost excusively. Josh had a real nice scramble and a possible TD pass dropped but didn't look that great otherwise.mk455 wrote:am i the only one that thinks frye didnt look all that great?
Personally, I think Frye is gonna get much more work at this time than Josh...and that sux. Something tells me the Browns aren't going to give Josh the opportunity I was hoping for.
Why else would you put this Campbell kid in (from William & Mary) more than J5???

Freak, from all accounts Josh was given a LOT of opportunity in practice, and he basically layed himself out of the backup spot. I hate that its happened, but that's the way it pretty much sounds. It'd be great if he'd get more time when we can watch in the exhibitions, but they've got to get reps for the guys who will have the best chance to make the team. Like it or not, practice is when he needed to make his mark.Falconfreak90 wrote:

From what I heard from people who went to training camp Josh was getting all the reps at #2 at the beginning. As his accuracy continued to be inconsistent he dropped down the depth chart. Johnson, despite not playing that well himself, was going up the depth chart.
I hate to say it, because I still think he's got all the intangibles to be an NFL QB, but it might be possible he just doesn't have it physically. He might make a good TE

I dont know what Romeo is thinking...Dilfer is a dud....The guy was good, but no longer has the arm strength he once did, nor the foot speed or agility to escape and make things happen...and lastly he is not durable..and will be out for the season by game three mark my words.
Cleveland has done it once again...making all kinds of changes, trying to improve...then they go out and get Difler????might as well have called Rodger Stalbuck, or terry Bradshaw, or Brian Sipe. They need to put their cards onthe table and go with Fry use THE DUD as a back up to teach but lets not say he something he clearly is not...a starter...teacher yes, back up yes, a former great yes, a good person yes. but not clevlands hope....
Cleveland Starts the season 0 and 3.
As far as josh goes, the guys is great but I think the pressure has him rattled. His arm strength has goten better, but his timing is off, he is I dont know how to describe it...uncomfortable...happy feet, rushing. i think if he could relax a bit he would shine and get his rythm back.

Josh DEFINITELY had happy feet in that game the other night. Hopefully we'll see an improvement Saturday afternoon.MACMAN wrote:I dont know what Romeo is thinking...Dilfer is a dud....The guy was good, but no longer has the arm strength he once did, nor the foot speed or agility to escape and make things happen...and lastly he is not durable..and will be out for the season by game three mark my words.

As for Dilfer, you have to start the vet man. Everyone knows that he's not going to lead the Browns anywhere. The FO & Coaching Staff feel that Frye is the future starter, and they don't want to throw him out there too soon. I think that every young QB should be given at least 3-4 months on the sidelines to watch the game, preferably a full season. You don't want him to lose his confidence or develop bad habits (as happened with Couch...he was a better rookie than any other year, developed bad habits).
What Dilfer gives you, as you mentioned, is a great leader and great person. He was instrumental in grooming Hasselback in Seattle, and they're hoping that he can do the same here for Charlie (and hopefully Harris as well). He'll go in and take the lumps, as a mediocre QB. They won't win much, but he's mostly there for leadership and teaching.
If Dilfer gets hurt, which he likely will since he's not real durable, they might give Charlie a chance or two in that case. Frye looked VERY poised on the field Saturday night, and has been continually improving throughout camp. I loved him going into the draft, and I still think he can become a starter in this league (of course I thought Harris could too).
Don't know how much of a chance Josh will get. From todays Plain Dealer:hammb wrote:Hopefully we'll see an improvement Saturday afternoon.

From the Dayton Daily News:
In reviewing Saturday night's preseason opener, Crennel said, "I thought all three of our quarterbacks played well." This probably isn't a good sign for Josh Harris, who was the fourth of five QBs to see action against the Giants, following Trent Dilfer, Doug Johnson and Charlie Frye.

This was in the Cleveland Plain Dealer today:
Quarterback Doug Johnson worked out with trainer Lott in the morning, but looked to be in pain. He left the field and did not practice in the evening because of unspecified soreness.
Not that I am wishing that Johnson is injured, but maybe it will give Josh a chance to get some more reps in practice and more playing time in the next preseason game.

I can't understand how a QB can be "sore" after playing about one quarter of the game. That is pathetic. (unless it is something serious, than I take that back) He probably works harder during the two-a-day practices then in that one quarter of game action. Maybe this will get Harris more playing time on Saturday though.
