Must be why so many canadians come here for medical procedures. Their are also a large number of Canadien doctors practicing in the US because they can't make a living up there (mine's one of them). If it isn't an emergency up there you're on a 4 year waiting list.....if you're lucky.

I've got several Canadian friends.....most don't have much good to say about their health care system.

We need some health care reforms here but socialized medicine isn't the answer.
I hope we can avoid a huge tangent here.

But I feel obligated to point out that polls consistently show Canadians greatly prefer their system to ours.

Often, American politicans accuse each other of wanting to destroy Social Security. They do this because most Americans cherish Social Security.

Canadian politicans do the same thing on health care -- accusing each other of wanting to "Americanize" it.

You have to think most NFL teams bring 4 QBs to camp. The three that they had last year and a rookie. If the team that invested a 5th round pick on him does not see him as a potential developmental QB.
Doug Flutie, Kurt Warner, and Tommy Maddox are examples of guys who played in other leagues and came back to star in the NFL. There are countless other examples of guys who have played in leagues such as the AFL or CFL and come back to the NFL as solid career backups.
Maddoxx (and maybe Flutie ) was a first round draft pick. Warener is a good example...as is Jeff Garcia. I hope he does. But doubt he will. For every example you have for guys going to the CFL and coming to the NFL there are 30 guys who don't. 30 is the unquestionable exact answer.

Wealfare states dont work look at Canada and why people come here for treatment, and look at france and Germany both enjoying over 12% unemployment and the most poverty of the large Euro nations, and more over are further seeing mass exodious of population to other nations.

As for josh it will serve him well, and hhis gamesmenship should draw the eyes of the NFL...and like flutie, and Madox a return is realistic to the NFL...and if not, he is still living the dream of geting paid to play football....what a ride.

Hey, at least you all in the BG/Toledo area can watch some CFL games on CBC. Its usually the Argos, but you may catch whatever team picked up Josh on their way through Toronto one weekend!

Once again: jealous. :?

I know a lot of Canadians and a few medical people that think there system for medical care is BAD. I do suppose it is better than a very few in the US have.

I love those, "I know a few Canadians..." anecdotes about the low quality of healthcare in Canada. Anecdotal evidence is one form of evidence, but it is inferior to systematic evidence, and there is way more of that to show Canadians love and will defend national healthcare.

I have been a CFL fan for years -- have seen games in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Hamilton (many times because the Tiger-Cats are located there). I consider the structure of the game (not necessarily the quality of the athletes) way superior to the "4 downs on a postage stamp" game we play here.

Where did he sign? I hope this is true -- QBs make decent money up there...

Is this the same Professor Jackson that taught me Canadian Politics at the U? If so I think everyone in here should bow to his/your knowledge on the issue.

I guess I shouldn't mention systematic evidence so arrogantly then not offer some:

In a 2003 survey of Canadians to determine "institutions of symbolic importance to Canada" health care came in first with 78 percent. The Queen came in last. "Medicare beats maple leaf as Canadian symbol," The Guardian (Charlottetown) (4 April 2003).

While there are many surveys about the attachment of Canadians to health care, I find this one particularly intriguing because of how it places it as something Canadians like, but also shows that Canadians have elevated it to a space in their hearts as a key element of their identity.

Also, I can find no confirmation on my usual CFL sites about the Harris thing...www.cfl.ca, www.ticats.ca, www.13thman.com

Yeah, I do teach Canadian Politics, but I recognize the validity of diverging viewpoints on the value of socialized medicine. No system yet invented by humans is perfect...Hope you liked the class!

Warren Moon played in the CFL and he became an NFL all star and a wife beater. I'm thinking Josh will be an NFL all pro and leave the wife beating to the West Virginians.

Canadian healthcare is free, but they have almost no MRI machines. They're as rare as a virgin in Calgary. In fact, Canada has more football teams named the "Roughriders" than they do MRI machines.

Here in the US MRI's are as plentiful as Pepsi machines.

Of course, what Canadians think about the system and the merits/demerits of the system itself are two different issues. I'm sure a majority of Turd fans prefer their university over ours, but we know which one is better.

Perhaps the better question from our Canadian friends' perspective is, can you slice, cook, season or in any other way manipulate back bacon with an MRI machine?

Answer this question and you may very well discover why MRI machines are so few in the Great White North...
