Ah, no. That's "G## D##n#d Fat punter!" Or as the drunk kid I walked behind all the way downtown moaned in a drunken voice, "We got beat by a ######g punter...........we got beat by a ######g punter!"transfer2BGSU wrote:OH NO!dstubb wrote:Yeah until we choked against Central...
Not the fat punter!
AGAIN!!!!
I recall the student radio station went on and on that night about how Blackney was gone, he'd never stick around now, and how it was the end of the world as we knew it. They were half right.
That cursed night I was forced to go directly from the game, to see the accursed domicile my family bought, and that I have hated ever since. Then I had to sit through Michigan beating us in Hockey. That night sucked harder than perhaps any night in BGSU athletic history. I dare anybody to find another single day where things sucked worse. We did get a glance from the Liberty bowl however, so much for that.
Nine years later I'm almost free of that cursed house, the football team is back, and hockey is on its way. Life goes on.

Nathan, you hit the nail right on the head. That was a veery dark daay in BG sports. That loss to CMU in 1994 was such a tough loss to take, especially because it had so much riding on it. It was the "MAC Championship" by the way it all played out that year. We were at home, we finally turned the game around and got the momentum going in our favor, and I was just starting to think of how cool it was going to be to go to Las Vegas for the bowl game.
Then, the infamous play occurred! It seemed like it took him 10 minutes to score that TD. He kept running (or chugging along I should say), and running, and running, and no one could tackle him once he got that wall of blockers out in front of him and our return guys finally realized there was no punt. We sent everyone back to set up the return and the punt never happened. The game completely swung in CMU's direction right then and we had a stadium full of fans that were snake bitten. Watching the CMU fans celebrate on our field afterward was the icing on the cake as far as pain is considered. It was like salt being poured into an open wound. I can honestly say, to this day, it's still hurts almost as bad as it did back then, 10 years ago.
But that game taught me something. It might sound cliche, but it really isn't over, until it's over. And you can't take any team or any player lightly, even if they're a fat punter. Taking one play off can wash an entire season away in front of your eyes. That game was proof of it. It's also why I fear and get so nervous about games like our upcoming game with NIU on the 24th. Although this game is much earlier in the schedule and on the road, a loss for either team "could" result in the same fate as that one did in 1994 for BG....spending the holidays at home and not going to a bowl. So let's beat NIU!!!

GO BG!!!
Like I said from the opening post, Toledo is not out of anything yet. All the laughing some people did at UT's defense after its losses to Minnesota and Kansas (and it was ugly, I'll agree), after watching an NIU back-up RB torch our defense for 200 plus yards and three TDs.....in ONE HALF......we have no room to talk! UT is now 1-0 and BG is 0-1 in the MAC. UT also has a shot yet against NIU, we've already blown ours. I know one thing, I'm not laughing. I hope we bounce back and play like we can the rest of the season, and that we can get some help from our friends in the MAC.
GO BG!!!
