Loud?

Post by BGSU Crazy Fan 58 »

Maybe it's because I was in a rowdy and loud student section but I could barely hear the music being played over the PA. I heard Hells Bells a lil bit and thought that was cool but none of the students can get pumped up by it if they can't hear it. Plus with the band being a few feet away maybe the PA music just seemed softer. Anyways, our Public Address annoucer really really sucks. Like y'all have been saying he has no excitement in his voice. He sounds like he is either gonna fall asleep or die. If BG can somehow get a new announcer that would be great. I think a jacked up PA guy could help the crowd a lil fired up to and get some fan noise goin. Still though, unfalconbelievable atmosphere saturday. That was awesome!

I was TICKED that I couldn't hear the shout of "RIGHTUPINTHERE!" by the percs and maggots for pre-game. The music dude was asleep at the switch.

Pathetic bugger.

And the music grew very old for me as well, but I was at the very north side of the West stands so it didn't bother me that much.

I agree with the Falcon Flier. I was looking forward to a football game, not a rock concert ----- the music was earsplitting, and anything but entertaining. And the commentator/announcer was his usual loud. not-quite-with-it self as well. Why do we have to listen to ear-splitting music right up to the snap of the ball? I'd much, much prefer to hear the band --- but even they were drowned out. I've attended two previous games this year (on other campuses) and this kind of format was not part of the show.
And I think I speak for the majority of the ole farts on the East side --- others were moaning, and growning over this issue.

This is purely speculation ... but given the somewhat small, often timid nature of the home crowds in recent years (NIU, Toledo games excluded), I wonder if this is simply an attempt to simply make The Doyt a more difficult venue for opponents.

I think the music can be good if done in conjunction with the student section. The way Wisconsin involved the students with the music was extremely impressive. I thought it was great. That atmosphere alone makes students feel it is their duty to attend the games and this type of thing can drive attendance up, but it must be done properly. Also, at UT when the clock bell is going very loud on third down, it's also very impressive. The noise really helps get the crowd into it. Our crowd was very lackluster on 3rd down near the endzone, but the score could have had something to do with that too. The defense was pushing for support and many fans didn't even stand up.

I think BG is on the right track, but maybe they should spend more time working with the students to figure out what will get them more involved. They may also need to look into the speaker placement and get a more even distribution of sound, instead of trying to blare all of the sound from one end of the stadium, thus drowning out one end while others are straining to hear.

SCREW the canned music. I an at a college football game not an NFL game. IF you insist on playing that $%^& then why even let the band in the stadium. It's not like they are part of a class and getting academic credit or anything. I went postal, as did others around me when the percussion was on the field ready to go and had to wait until the idiot in the box cut the canned crap. Now I will get jumped on because I am being negative about the whole day, and it will be said that I have everyting Falcon...whatever. These are the small things that we need to be getting right. We may never have the money for all of the flashy things other schools will have, but we should provide our fans with the basic college football experience and it should be the best in the country. That will take a lot of changes in attitudes before that happens. Example, if it is homecomming and you have the alumni band there why inthe hell would you put their seats on the other side of the 50 from the current band????? The point of homecomming is to allow alumni to come back and bond with current students and groups they were involved with. Not separate them because you don't have a clue. We have a great team, we have great fans, we just need someone to dig in and sort out all of these details.

Did anyone hear ABBA play during the halftime show? It was awesome because there is nothing like ABBA drowning out the band's halftime show.

What really sucked about the PA is that I had to shout to talk to the person sitting next to me. That's ridiculous. They better fix it. Just let the band play.

Perhaps some e-mail to Mr. Krebs may help. Nothing disrespectful of course, just asking why things were as they were at the game. I am sure they will all be read and even if a personal responce is not sent back they will be considered. I truely believe he is dedicated to making this the best atmosphere possible.

Students e-mailing Krebs is about as useful as a rice cake to Tom Amstutz.

It's going to require Alumni to get behind it and mass mailings. While your at it, complain about the PA.

I disagree with that because I was once a student and things I talked with the AD about did get changed. A fan is a fan, period.

While you're at it, people need to email SOMEONE in the AD about the port-o-pot and trash can situations!! I ran into someone close to the coaching staff (read: wife) and she said we definitely need to email and voice concerns so they hear it from a LOT of us!!

One more thing, I could rant on and on about canned music played when we have a band there. It happens all the time at the hockey games and really ticks me off. What kind of respect does that show for the band (either FMB or Pep bands)???

Complain away people!!!! Let 'em know how we feel!!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Just to follow up on this.

If it's crucial to have bells ringing on third down for our opponents (and I'm not sold on this; seems to me a better gimmick is just waiting to be invented), could we go with "For Whom The Bell Tolls," by Metallica? It has the same bell ringing intro and a more intimidating opening riff, if memory serves.

And, I'm thinking we wouldn't be copying other schools with it.
