I don't think it was a matter of trying to fix our running game. If you were at the game or listened to the radio, I think you would agree that Omar was having an off day. That is why we ran the ball more often. Not because we made a concious effort to improve our run game.
Actually, I was at the game. I even made mention that we were running the ball more from the start of the game and this was well before Omar's problems became evident. We didn't approach this game the same as we usually do by going to the air quick and often. I think it was a conscience effort and the bad passing and the wind made us run it that much more. I even thought it was obvious in the Ohio game that we were running the ball more.

If you go back to the Boise game, we had little success passing the ball (18 completions of 35 passes), but we still only ran our backs 14 times. In this game passing was almost identical (18 of 34), but hey ran 35 times. We also rushed 37 times in the Ohio game.

I do agree that O had an off day, but I also believe we have been making an effort to get the running game going. Brandon has even mentioned this is past interviews.

BGSU-Ph.D. wrote:I agree that Texas Tech does appear to be the exception, but, playing devil's advocate, I'll point out that Texas Tech's schedule has been very weak and, if it is stronger than BG's, it isn't by much.

TT's schedule/results to date:

9/10 FIU W 56-3
9/17 Sam Houston W 80-21
9/24 Indiana State W 63-7
10/1 Kansas W 30-17
10/8 at Nebraska W 34-31
10/15 Kansas St W 59-20

1-A newcomer FIU, two 1-AA schools, mediocre Kansas and KSU, and pretty good Nebraska. Of course, Wisconsin is better than all of those teams. Nebraska might be better than Boise, but I'd take Boise over both Kansas and KSU. Ball State and Ohio are both better than FIU (heck, I might even take Buffalo and Temple againt FIU), and Buffalo and Temple, while bad, are better than the two 1-AA schools.

I think Texas Tech will be exposed as a top 10 fraud this weekend against Texas.
Not gonna argue about the quality of TX Tech's team/schedule. I think I agree with ya. Just trying to point out that a team can accumulate 80% of their offense through the air and still get ranked in the top ten. Don't always have to have a good balance to be a good team.

I interpret those comments to mean we will work harder in practice so that on game day we are more effective at running the ball. Not that we will have more rushing attempts in a particular game.

Practice is all well and fine, but you never know if it truly works until you put it in the game. You certainly don't want to wait until the Miami/UT games to find out.
