Good optomism, too bad that we got to see what our team is like without Omar. At least he will be back next year (hopefully)ialone82 wrote:I never post, but I feel the need today.
I know there is going to be a lot of "fire Gregg Brandon" posts, or the always fun to read "we suck" variety, and maybe they are warrented.
But look at the standings. Miami is struggling (thus far) against EMU, and Ohio will not finish the the MAC season with only 2 losses. Therefore, we are still in fine position to win the East, and still have as good a chance as ever to win the MACC.
Also, whenever a Brandon team gets blown out, I seem to recall a trend of taking frustrations out on the next week opponents (well, save Ball State). This is good, considering we play Akron, one of only a few who has any chance at the division title.
So in conclusion, yes, there are positives that we can take from this. One: Turner got considerable playing time. Two: Omar will be back next year (though, to tell you the truth, I wish he didn't have to). Three, the blowout will hopefully wake this team and coaching staff up for the home stretch of the schedule.
You can call me overly positive or naive, but I am not a fair weather fan. I'm sure, though, we will be able to single those out by the end of this week.

You question where were the students, yet the East part of the stadium was only half full. From what I saw, the West part of the stadium was quite full and there were plenty of students.

Well, we kind of did. It was pretty obvious that the coaching staff was very unprepared for such a situation. Now, God forbid, if Omar cannot play next week, I think we will see a Turner-run offense that will run much more smoothly than what transpired today. The staff can focus the preparations on AT's style of play.FalconFanatic wrote:Good optomism, too bad that we got to see what our team is like without Omar. That's typical for a midseason game. For the Temple game, the "student section" was basically full. For Ohio and today, it looked more empty than full.BGDrew wrote:You question where were the students, yet the East part of the stadium was only half full. I was listening on the radio during the first half and decided to get my butt over there for the second. Admittedly I wasn't going to go to this game even though I'm in down b/c I was SURE we were going to win.
I'll spare the "this is the worst performance i've seen comments.." but on the topic of lack of students I saw exactly what I expected as I walked up to the stadium... mass exodus. I can't say I blame people either. If the first half was anything like the second I can't blame people for leaving.

The (Graduated) "OU Falcon"
I need to vent.
I'm so pissed that it seems that we do not try anything new. Same old punt formation, same approach to throwing in the towel when we are getting it handed to us. I really use to think Coach Brandon was awesome...but as the season progresses, sometimes I feel like as a woman, I can coach this damn football team than he does.
I think our players are weak. Mentally and physically. I think some changes need to start happen with strength and conditioning. Say what you want about Coach Hillman, I've sat and talked with the guy. I've seen players workouts. I think there is BIG room for improvement in that area. I even offered to teach our players yoga for free (I'm a yoga instructor), I got a reply from Coach Brandon, not from Hillman. No one in the program is up for any type of change or any suggestions-or atleast they are not up for working together to bring forth change. I think, as well as I know some of you think, that a lot of things need to change. It was so frustrating to watch our players be frustrated, but no do anything with that emotion! I didn't see any of the coaches showing emotion...and football is a sport you have to play with emotion! It was so dishearting and I feel at a loss as a Falcon fan this evening.
Not that anyone will care about this post-but I feel better writing it.

I care frdmgir7. You made some good points and I agree with mosts. However, we did try a new punt formation, but it is even worse than what we were using.
Basically the same formation, except take the three guys right of the snapper and send them way to the right. So at the point of attack, there is no one on the right of the snapper. And since the snapper doesn't even attempt to block, it is an open invitation to speed into the backfield, leap over the 'shield' before they block you, and get a hand on a punt. Stupid.

We were in trouble well before Omar got hurt. The team didn't seem to care one way or the other and Western was taking it to us physically from the outset . I can gaurentee you that teams are going to pin their ears back and really come after us from here on out. You know that Akron thinks they can come in here next week and smack us around for 15 minutes and we'll just fold.
There's something really wrong with this team. They don't seem to want it very badly.

I think you hit the nail on the head. They don't show emotion the way I would expect from a team that's getting their butts handed to them. I think the most disappointing part about today's game for me was after we scored in the second half (again only after a roughing the kicker call) and got it to within 34-17 with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd. I was thinking that the D would come out fired up, get a stop, and maybe we would see a great comeback. Boy, was I wrong. Western went right down the field (all to their credit) and scored on us like we were the scout team defense. It was around that time that I noticed Jacobs on the sideline after the injury. He may have been out much earlier, but I didn't notice. I saw him walk around the sideline, shakes guys' hands, and tells them about the injury. I'm sure everyone on the team asked him at some point. Maybe I'm asking for too much and maybe it's just not the way he is, but I was hoping to see some sort of leadership out of Omar after he came back out. Whether it was trying to get the crowd into it after the Turner TD or something. I don't know what I expected and I'm sure he was terribly disappointed by the injury, but I was hoping to see something.Flipper wrote:There's something really wrong with this team. Oh well, that's my rant. Thanks for setting up this thread and hopefully everything can be contained to here.
Everybody is right --- this team really didn't seem to be in the game last night. I watched the sidelines with my binoculars and many of the players were just talking with some not even watching the game; some appeared to be telling jokes since they were laughing so hard. I was really bothered by that. One would think that they would have been on the edge of the field supporting their team-mates, urging them on. The Western team seemed to be doing just that. They were in their excite mode for most of the night.

I'm afraid I must agree with Flipper on this one. I saw signs at Buffalo of uninspired play but we got the W there.Flipper wrote:We were in trouble well before Omar got hurt. It seemed to me that the players thought they were gonna waltz in and walk all over WMU with no problem. I know I felt we should roll them.
But WMU definitely remembered last year and came out ready. We were not even close to being ready.
The most disappointing loss in the last 4 years for me....
Credit WMU and their staff for roughing us up....makes me glad we're back in the East.
FWIW, Akron got shut out by a winless Army team at home yesterday, 20-0.
