Two sad footnotes on Saturday's game

The Akron crowd will be grim, IMO.

Despite the importance of the game and the designation of Family Weekend, Yahoo! Sports' box score said the attendance was 13,959. Our average attendance stands at 15,866 right now with Akron and Toledo the only home games remaining. With a meager showing against Akron (say 12,000), we'll probably finish with an average of more than 16,000. Adequate, but from from the visions of wall-to-wall orange many had hoped for and predicted.

I had a chance to talk briefly with Paul Krebs prior to the game; he asked me how the weather was when I was coming in....my reply?" it was raining like CRAZY in NE Ohio....finally ran into 'dry' weather around Fremont on the O-Pike." He said they had a nice presale, indicated he was looking forward to a good crowd since it hadn't rained at all in BG.
That all said, i really thought there were many more people at the WMU game than at the OU game....if for no other reason than the students were there...and in force....all the way over to where the recruits sit behind the Falcon bench. Admittedly, didn't look hard to see how full the South portion of the West side stands were, but it sure seemed that the Northern sections had quite a few people, many student/family combos there. So the announced crowd surprised me too.

I actually talked someone out of joining me last Saturday. Told 'em Akron would be a better game, and that it would be a better choice.

I wonder if I was the only one thinking that.

I will be there for Akron. I am driving in 6 hours from Illinois Thursday night and arriving in BG around midnight. Stuff to do Friday, bar that night, Saturday morning I have some unfortunate commitments and then off to watch BG crush the roo's that evening. And then, of course, the bar after as well.....

BGAlum- I thought bg lost at the Doyt in the MAC championship game a couple years (since 2001) ago to Miami. They had that real big guy playing QB, Ben Something? Am I mistaken?

Saturday's game marked the first regular-season loss at The Doyt during Gregg Brandon's tenure, a streak of 13 games.

All other stats he cited were based on that qualifier, I believe.

Well, we will be short one regular since I will be missing the game due to medical reasons.

Hope whatever it is you've gotta take care of ya get over it and get healthy for the UT game!

Don't know what I've got. That's the problem.

But I already have vacation scheduled for the day of the UT game and Wednesday as well. Hopefully all will be well in the world then.

Who would one talk with in the Athletic Dept. about how the university compiles the attendance figures? I commented earlier that it looked like the Temple crowd was underreported. Last year, I remember thinking that the Marshall crowd was underreported. Hopefully, I haven't posted this question before.

h20: I believe in my post I mentioned that it was "regular season" games. So, no, you are not mistaken, but yes, you glossed over my qualification. I won't make a crack about a UT education, though I suspect others here might.

You're wrong. It's that now, w/o the bleachers.

People think the crowds are larger than they are? Chalk one up to whomever's idea it was to remove the north and south bleachers.

By doing this they are forcing the scattered few that sat in the endzones to fill in the east and west sides therefore giving the feeling of a stadium that appeas to be more full than it is.

Twenty some years of visualizing the east and west then hearing about crowds of 24k or so then removing the endzones and seeing the same amount of people in the east and west sides but only having crowds reported at 18k is an interesting thing.

If anything the U would be over-reporting crowds (see EMU, 2004). It is in the U's utmost interest to ensure that counting methods are at the least overcounting rather than undercounting.

I'm aware that the capacity is now just under 24,000 with the removal of the bleachers in both endzones.....but I still say with the number of people in those 24,000 seats compared to the people not in those 24,000 seats, I think we've had more there than the reported attendance in all three home games. Just my opinion.
