I agree that this is essentially the first year the bottom has fallen out under the post-Blackney regime.

Redwingtom posted a while back about Brandon's losses, making the convincing case that they were all "good losses" (either on the road or versus demonstrably better talent) which I agreed with at the time when panic had set in after Boise. Western and Akron skewed the profile as they were second level conference team at home.

Flipper is right: he sounds like he knows what the problem is (turnovers, breakdowns) but is oblivoius on what the solution is besides platitudes about "working hard." I really hope I'm wrong.

Absolutely correct. How the team finishes the season - and how well we do in the off-season, will tell the tale.

I like Brandon. He is a good guy. He has a great offensive mind.

He is not, however, a head coach.

This is the last year of Urban's influence on the team. The last few recurits are leaving. BG is in trouble.

Brandon disagreed with Urban on discipline and player relations. The "four quarters of the season" are gone. The "Leadership Council" has been replaced. The "Trust" philosophy is gone. The"personal responsibility to self & team" is gone. The philosophy that you treat players the way they deserve to be treated, is gone. The demands that's coaches coach with the intensity that players are expected to play with is gone.

Add to that poor preparation; poor coaching;and a sense that losing is part of the game, and you have the meltdown that has occurred. Back to back losses to teams with less talented players, but more talented coaches.

Some of the players liked it better because it was more relaxed. The coaches like it better because they don't spend the same amount of time and they aren't going to be laid into if they, or their players, screw up.

I hope Brandon takes a good hard look at what it takes to be a D1 coach.

GO FALCONS!!!

My dad observed yesterday at the game about how angry he would get on calls that he perceivably made (i.e. punt on Akron 39 for 15 yards). Like the previous posters said, it does seem like he knows what the problems are...but don't we all? I'd like to see some of the backup players get in there and show what they can do.

As far as Brandon, we'll see after this year how the program responds. It's his first year facing adversity with a team greatly underachieving. If changes aren't made next year, then I'll want to see him go.

Great coaches know how to fix problems permanently, and so far he and his staff have done a piss-poor job on special teams and defense. Until that is fixed, I'll not acknowledge him as a coach I can point to and say he made a difference.
