I didn't mean to be so anti-MAC today, but really, it has not been pretty. The MAC against itself suffered, you've got Buffalo & Temple in the mix. Not to mention how we fared against the Big 10 & the WAC. Attendance everywhere is pretty dang bad. Y'all had me SO pumped up at the beginning of the season & I've got to say, I am completely underwhelmed.
I probably wouldn't have said anything, but I came to find umpteen posts about what a great MAC championship game it was & rah rah, go Akron. I just got a little miffed at the MAC love fest here, when IMHO there was not that much to brag about. Sorry to all the homers I've ticked off. Just venting!
I agree with you Ineedbotox, we did have a really bad season with all the defeats from other conferences and the performance of the top tier in the MAC. It's like getting a job that pays really well because the company thought you were worth the money, but when it comes time to perform, you just can't deliver the goods. This is what the MAC is like. ESPN may up-talk the MAC, but man when we're in the national spotlight we look like clowns more so than not. Not to mention the embarassing attendance day in and out at MAC games! It's hard to grab the attention and hearts of the nation when they see that we don't even give two craps about our teams in the MAC. It's a tragedy!
Although I was pleased with the offense last night, but once again tons of points are deposited on the scoreboard! It's not hard for the outside conferences to look in and see how weak our "D" is overall! No wonder the MAC produces some great QB's!

I don't think you really angered anyone. You didn't anger me, at least. You were just voicing frustration that a lot of us are feeling right now.Ineedbotox wrote:

The fact of the matter is, though, that I believe MAC fans should be proud of Akron. Just because they weren't picked to be anywhere near the top doesn't mean that their victory should be a disappointment for MAC fans. Yes, people like Phil Steele and other people who claim to be sayers of sooth for a living are disappointed, and yes, people like this may take out their frustration on the MAC for a year or two - or maybe even longer - to come. BUT, that really doesn't matter if fans of the MAC can recognize the ability of our lower-tier teams to recruit, compete and win. That is what makes a great conference, no matter how much it pisses people off that would have profited from BG running the table in the conference handily.
I'm not going to come down on you for your opinion, because I believe it is a legitimate view as a fan of the team everyone thought was going to be a powerhouse this year. That being said, I believe that the best thing we BG fans can do for the MAC, and vicariously for BG, is support and celebrate Akron's victory. It sounds strange, I know, but once the nation finally realizes that a number of our "bottom-feeder" programs ARE capable of stepping up and winning championships, the MAC will finally get the respect that we all feel it deserves. As others have said, the positive comments about our conference that ESPN announcers have made this past year is evidence that at least some people are getting it.
A heartfelt congrats to the Fightin' Marsupials!
