Eh...people have pretty short memories. Hang up another 9-10 win season or two with a bowl win and he'll be back on some short lists. Look at Gary Pinkel, he was UT for awhile and had some middling years before landing the Mizzou job.

Plus, I don't think there are any rumors. Don't discount the idea some AD looks at our season, says, hey, they were 6-5 with the offensive injuries they had and not count it against him as much as they do here.

Don't think the cupboard is bare at all, just don't feel like we're reloading as much as in the past. Time will tell.

I think the funniest thing from the Awards Banquet is that they actually gave a Special Teams Award this year. I think it would have been a good PR move by GB and the staff to give that award a year off. Plus, it should not have been Nate Fry. Maybe give it to a guy who played well on kick/punt coverage. Nothing against Nate, but he didn't exactly have a year to remember.

While I definitely agree they could've forgone the special teams award completely, Fry did not have a bad year as a punter. It is not his fault that the formation resulted in blocks...at least none of them looked to me as though he took too long to get the kick off. My opinion from watching was when Fry was allowed to get the kick off he had a pretty solid year punting the ball.

Sure his FGs sucked, but remember he wasn't even supposed to be kicking them. He was pressed into that duty when Timchenko stunk.

In fairness to Timchenko, he was hurt....and he stunk...at times.

There were some interesting stats announced with his award. The one that really sticks out is that punt teams returned .8 yards, so not even one yard and they only counted the ones that were returnable. Also, they stated that he kicked where he was instructed to kick. Where ever Brandon said he wanted the ball, that's what he did. They also mentioned how they changed his punting style and he adapted. Basically, whatever they asked of Fry, he was willing to and did give it to them.

The whole formation we used is designed to cut down on returns, which it certainly did. For the team, that has to be balanced against the blocks, but for Nate, not so much. He had a pretty good year.

Not all of Urban's recriuts are gone. Next years 5th year seniors will be the last of the Urban Meyer era.

That's what I was thinking, but with the rampant anti-Brandon sentiment around here, I was afraid I'd get flamed for asking.

Not quite true...While Urban began the recruitment of that class, he was long gone by signing day. Several recruits turned away from BG and went with their other offers. Many of the recruits were drawn to BG due to the Meyer success (Urban Legend hype) and his leaving made some of them skeptical about BG. Some slots that were filled were from Urban, but some slots were due to last minute scrambling of the coaching staff that remained to fill the remaining schollies.

No, any guys that signed in spring 2002 (started in fall 2002), next year would be their 5th year of eligibilty, if there are any. (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006).

I think I'd put a bit of faith in the original source in this case.

The fifth year seniors would have been redshirted (or freshmen waiting to be redshirted) in the 2002 season. Fall 2006 will be their fifth year with the program.

Sorry...I was thinking of the 4 year seniors that just left. Next years, 5th year seniors belong to Urban and are part of his last recruiting year.

I could see a large program offering him an OC job, I suppose, but why would he take it? He could probably make marginally more in salary as an OC at a big time program, but prestige wise it's a step down the coaching ladder.
Isn't this basically what Beckman did? Left the DC job at BG to be a regular asst at OSU, probably with the idea this would more likely eventually land him the same job he had at BG, but with a larger program. Not sure I agree with that reasoning (if indeed that was a reason), but it seems plausible.

What is the difference if he leaves to take a OC job at a big-time school now or leaves in 2 years when his contract is up and takes a lesser job as an assistant due to his struggles.

Maybe he can see the writing on the wall. If he leaves to go to say Florida ST to be offensvie coordinator(which bowden is getting heat because it is his son and brandon was helping them in off-season) and they have success he becomes a HC again in a few years at Florida St, or some other BCS program.

I;m just saying don't be suprised, my observation woould be that someone that was going to be here long term would have been a bit more excited and enthused about the SEBO project last week.

And Lovett doesn't look like he has slept in about 3 months, I wonder if he is regretting his move up North yet?
