They may have no choice but to take us.
Growing up in Athens and playing for the high school, the only thing anyone dreamed of was to play for Don Peden.", 1950 OU graduate. "He was the most respected man in town."

Just ask VMI, Buffalo, UCF and SEMO. Everyone else, though, won't know what the heck you're talking about.

I don't think there is any question that the 11-game schedule is going to knock a few more teams out of the running for a bowl.

We will see.
Your right about this. Only 57 schools will be bowl elgible in 2004 for 56 slots.
This logic is flawed. It is possible this will be true, but it is not set in stone. The truly awful teams that don't win any games will skew the result to being more than 57 bowl eligible teams.

At this point you cannot say for certain how many bowl eligible teams there will be in 2004.

I agree. We don't know what will happen. And the MAC's sad performance OOC (and geography) may hurt us even if it comes down to several bowl-eligible MAC teams and... hypothetically... Troy State as the only other eligible team in the country.

The other thing to keep in mind, as I think about it, is a point someone else made.

Had we built up an early lead -- as we did in 2003 -- then NIU would have been more reluctant to pound the ball as they did, and perhaps BG would have won again.

If someone -- Toledo, for instance -- is able to scoot off to a quick lead, they may take NIU out of their game enough to hold on.

So who knows?

It looks grim right now, but we need reasons to keep coming to games.

It isn't just that we lost and that it looks like a tough road to the MAC title game. What bothers me as much as anything is the possibility that fans may give up. We were poised to break the season attendance record. I want to do that. We need to do that if we are to keep moving the program forward.

So we need reasons for hope.
