SUFFOLK –– Marcus Vick, the former Virginia Tech quarterback who was dismissed from the team last week after various troubles on the field and with the law, was arrested and charged Monday with three counts of brandishing a firearm, a misdemeanor.

The 21-year-old turned himself at the Suffolk magistrate’s office Monday afternoon, where he was later released on a $10,000 bond.

Sunday night, shortly after 9 p.m., police were called to the parking lot of the McDonalds at 6201 College Dr.

The parents of a 17-year-old boy reported that Vick “had pointed a weapon at her son and two others during an altercation,” said police spokeswoman Lt. D.J. George.

Relevant graph: "Vick is accused by three individuals of brandishing a firearm at them Sunday night. Two of the victims are adults and one is a 17-year-old."

Vick was being rated as no better than a 5th or 6th round after his earlier skirmish (driving with a suspended license), now after this latest arrest, he's not likely to be drafted.

Vick will be drafted. I would bet anything. As long as he is not incarcerated he will be drafted.

From Mel Kiper in today's espn.com
Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green
2005: 60.7 completion pct., 2,591 yards, 26 TDs
His numbers as a junior weren't as good as those in his sophomore season, but you can live with what he did. At Bowling Green, Jacobs played in a great system for a quarterback. He does have an unorthodox release, and that concerns me as to how effective he will be in the NFL. Vince Young has an unorthodox release, as well, but Young is a far superior athlete. Right now, Jacobs projects as a fifth-round pick.

Omar not predicted to be the 4th QB taken. Again, this is from Mel Kiper. Mel predicts Alabama's QB to be the 4th QB selected.

OUCH!

That seems VERY low, to me. You can usually count on 4-10 QBs going in day 1, and I just don't see that many QBs that are better than Omar. Clearly I'd put Leinart & Young ahead of him, and I think Cutler is there for sure as well. That makes Omar 4th, which is where a lot of publications have him currently slotted. On the whole this is a pretty weak QB draft, and I just don't see how enough QBs can pass him to make him a 5th rounder.

I will say that this is shaping up to be an incredibly deep talent pool...one of the best in the last 10-15 years. Tons of Juniors are declaring that will be between the late 1st to 3rd rounders. The only way I can truly see Omar falling to the second day is teams just go away from QB altogether and try to dig into the talent at all the other positions. We all know that NFL teams cannot quite manage to do that however. They want to develop QBs and eventually some team will pick Omar because they think he's got a lot of upside as a future starter.

I know I'd be pretty amazed if he dropped that far...if he did I'd say he made a pretty big mistake by leaving early.

Not sure it means anything, but the numbers geek in me had to know ...

Number of QBs taken in the first four rounds ...

2005: 8
2004: 6
2003: 7
2002: 6
2001: 7
2000: 3
1999: 9

So if Omar is one of the top 6 QBs, history says he has a good chance at going in the first four rounds. The one anamoly here was 2000 and when you look at the names, it's no surprise why so few QBs went early - Pennington, Carmazzi, Redman all went in the first three rounds. Of course, Tom Brady was the drafted in the 6th, the seventh QB taken overall (right behind Mr. Spergon Wynn).

How could I resist?

At least I didn't mention that DeShaun Foster, Clinton Portis and Brian Westbrook were all drafted after William Green. Oops, I just did.

None of this means Richard until Omar gets in fornt of the talent evaluators and shows them that he isn't a midget, can throw a ball over a Dline with a 3/4 motion and can line up under center and take a 3-5 step drop without tripping over his feet or killing someone.

Once he does all that, we should be able to peg his draft position....

A little Dolphin chatter about Omar.

http://www.miamifootball365.com/dolphin ... 0106.shtml

Who should the Dolphins draft with their first round pick

By Hugo Guzman
01/13/06

The Miami Dolphins have the 16th pick in the 2006 NFL draft. So who should they pick?

The various countless mock drafts that make the rounds on the internet have various players ear-marked for a Dolphins uniform.

Some have Eric Winston going from Coral Gables to Davie. Winston was a dominating left tackle, prior to a major knee injury in 2004. He is just now returning to his pre-injury form but his combination of size and athletic ability should make him a dominating NFL tackle for a decade or more. His fiery mean streak and overall attitude should make a more "sure thing" than fellow UM alum Vernon Carey.

Some have Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler moving from Tennessee to Miami. The strong armed gun slinger received little television coverage due to the fact that he played for perennial SEC doormat, but he put some very impressive stats and NFL analysts like ESPN's Sean Salisbury feel that he is one of the only sure things in the draft in terms of a legitimate pro quarterback. He actually has a better arm than both Vince Young and Matt Leinart.

The same can be said of another quarterback that has been linked with the Miami Dolphins. Bowling Green signal caller Omar Jacobs had an incredibly efficient college career, throwing 67 touchdowns in the past two seasons compared to only 7 interceptions (my note here: it should be 11 ints, but still very impressive). That's just crazy, and if he can translate that type of efficiency to the NFL and use his agile legs to by time and eat up yardage he could end up being a star in the NFL for years to come.

Right now, these three seem to be the front runners, but knowing Nick Saban he may go with some other player that none of us were even thinking about. Based on the success of the players he drafted last year, I'll be happy regardless of who he chooses.

At this point, the Dolphins could fill another need in the first round and still get Omar in the second round...unless Omar' stock climbs through the roof at the NFL Combine.

Sorry...But I disagree...Teams want QBs that win Super Bowls. If you can get it done on the field, you can get away with murder off the field...Literally and figuratively!

I think Omar goes 4th round.
