Went to the Recruiting Reception......

Post by Falconboy »

And was delighted to hear Coach Brandon hail praise for DJ Young , our monster new DT. He's 6'5 and pushing 280 already so I think we're getting the neccesary beef to plug some running lanes. The other DL guy , Orlando Barrow is 6'2-6'3 and 270 so it looks like we've taken care of D-line depth.

He graduated from Long Branch HIGH SCHOOL in 2005. It looks like he played one year for Fork Union Military Academy which means that he would probably have at least three years of eligibility left.
If it was a prep school he went to in 2005, he should still have 4 years of eligibility left.

Spot on, RF. Prep schools do not count against college eligibilitiy.

And don't forget about Nick Davis...will be a Soph this season. He got valuable PT last year and is 6'3" 276...at least according to last year's roster.

Who I hope will be up to 290 or so by this fall. Davis and Curtis are returning DT's and we'll see emerges from the rs freshmen as well.

I seem to recall us having luck with DTs named Young in the past ... I believe my fellow "older timers" will back me up on this.

Spart43 says Brady Minturn from last year's class has put on 50 lbs and is ready to roll. My nephew's HS is a rival of Loveland's...my brother in law says Minturn played a nasty, bodering on dirty style of DT.

I'm down with that....

"If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts" ...

Still ... if some of these players develop as we hope/expect, we may see the defensive line turn from weakness to strength quicker than we imagine.

Davis & Curtis got some valuable PT last year; we've heard the buzz about Minturn from Spart43. Add in Barrow and Young and, for the first time in recent memory, we have the makings of a solid DT corps. Remember that in addition to our DT recruiting woes, we lost Leninger and Latkiewicz for different reasons.

Right now we're talking about five players being in the mix.

Man, I'm stoked for football!

im jacked up for this season, our D line maybe see the biggest improvement yet, or wait will it be the ST? either way we need both to improve and id say GB went out and got some good ball players in those areas!!!!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

There's more than five players in the mix at DT. From last year's class, James, Hardwick and Frericks were all talked about as playing inside rather than on the edge and Brandon Mack lined up some at DT last year
