I got a reply back within 30 minutes.Tricky_Falcon wrote:For those who have sent letters, has anyone replied?
Summary:
Conference issues, FIU, and existing contracts played a part in this year's schedule. The AD also said he is committed to getting 6 home games, but that it will take some time unless contracts are cancelled, buyouts etc.
He also thanked me for the feedback & offered an open invitation to chat with him.
I am encouraged that at least they acknowledge the loyal fans are disapointed.

I'll echo what Mitch said...he also indicated we did NOT have a signed deal with Navy. FWIW, Navy didn't really announce one either...I think there was a mention in the media that they had, but there was never an official announcement.
He did say that they are working towards six home games a year, but that process wouldn't happen overnight unles we buy out or back out of contracts already in place.
Ok... I can live with that. As long as they know there's a problem and are working towards solving it, we're good. Hell, why not spell out what contracts we have in place and why we can't break those deals? It's not like we're talking about nuclear missle technology....shedding a little light on the situation would do wonders for the fan base.

My only concern now is how the football team handles the 2007 schedule. After all this, how silly would we look if we lose to Western Kentucky? Maybe about as silly as we did after losing to Temple last year, but possibly even sillier.
Banana skins - I hate them. I guess we just need to do the business in 2007 and rack up some w's!

And Western Kentucky will be fired up. The school was very open about its desire to join the MAC and probably feel like they got snubbed. They are a very good I-AA program, much better than we've played in some time.

Time to make Lemonade out of the lemons
I've stayed out of this for a while, but at least the games are on Saturday. It would have been miserable with this schedule along with Tuesday night games.

I'm sure the defense will be ready to go as well. Springer probably wasn't expecting to play his old team so quickly, but has WKU's DC I'm sure he'll have those guys fired up and knowing what to do.1987alum wrote:Zom:Zom wrote:My only concern now is how the football team handles the 2007 schedule. Everyone that's at that game needs to make sure that everytime you pass someone in WKU apparel, ask them "Bowling Green, that's in Ohio, right?"1987alum wrote:And Western Kentucky will be fired up. So very well played.
As far as the sked, we'll be at 10 games this year. Just because the sked isn't what we hoped is no reason, IMO, to ditch the program or the kids on the team. Sping game is only a month away now. Hopefully GC is taking aggressive steps to correct this situation in the future. I was encouraged by the response MajorFalcon recd.

WKU has been overt in its efforts to join the MAC. The conference, however, has been, at best, coy. From what I've discerned, the MAC has told WKU it's "not interested at this time."
I'd have to check me notes, but from what I gathered earlier, only WKU and Temple were asked for the material & data necessary to be considered for conference membership the last go-round.

I'd like to see WKU in the MAC. Too bad we can't add them and dump Temple. Of course that will only continue the problem we have with unbalanced divisions.redskins4ever wrote:I got a note from the MAC sportsline people... and WKU desperately wants to be part of the MAC. Nothing natural about it, other than our schools are in towns that have the same name and they hired on of our assistants to be a coordinator. We've never played them and we're physically closer to at least four other non-BCS D-IA schools.Globetrotter wrote:WKU seems like a natural rivalry.
I like the idea of adding WKU, but I don't think it will happen if we lose a school, only to balance out an odd number. I understand the hesitance to add them, though. Remember, as Schadenfreude often points out, it is the university presidents that make these decisions, not the athletic directors or the league office.
