There is no way in hell a waiver should be granted to a sub .500 school if there are teams out there with a winning record. No ifs, ands or buts....

Oh...I get the why....I just think it's ridiculous. The NCAA needs to be careful. Moves like this and all the nonsensical conference realingments, cheating and abusive scholarship practices by schools like 'Bama are damaging the brand. They're taking the charm and fun out the game.

FWIW, Jerry Palm updated his projections to include BG playing LA Tech in the Independence Bowl. Its an ACC tie-in BG is filling so it could be a likely matchup.

The haves have NEVER had any use for schools like us and they never will. This isn't new, just a continuation of the same story.

He doesn't have Pitt or UConn in. It's interesting, the Independence Bowl is the spot for ACC #7 and Military is for ACC #8. Maybe he thinks BG is ahead of Ohio in the pecking order (which they should be).jpfalcon09 wrote:FWIW, Jerry Palm updated his projections to include BG playing LA Tech in the Independence Bowl. This is true...in the 70's the "power schools" formed the College Football Association to neogtiate TV rights for the top 64 programs. Eventually, individual conferences gained the right to market themselves, and the CFA fell by the wayside. It was soon replaced by the BCS. While not intended to market a group of schools over another, it was designed to do something worse....control access to the process of determining a champion. The 70's also saw the split between 1AA (FCS) and 1A (FBS) for a time seating capacity along with attendance was used to make the disitnction. BGSU was 1AA for a year or three in the early 80's...I think the 1982 team was ranked in the top five nationally. That's why we had those hideous bleachers in the north and south end zones for so long. We needed them for our listed capacity.orangeandbrown wrote:The haves have NEVER had any use for schools like us and they never will. This isn't new, just a continuation of the same story.

Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
.....Central Michigan, which is 6-6, is the most likely team to get left home. Looking at the other teams that might be in danger, we have to take a look at the smaller conferences - because this isn't going to affect the big boys. Conference USA has already made contingency plans for all five of its bowl-eligible teams, so there shouldn't be any worry for 6-6 Rice or 6-6 SMU. The Mountain West will also get all five of its eligible teams in bowls due to its tie-ins. That leaves the MAC, WAC and Sun Belt. There are 15 bowl-eligible teams in those conferences, including Central Michigan, and some of them have to be pretty nervous.
After Central Michigan, Western Kentucky has the worst record among those teams, at 7-5. Louisiana-Monroe, Bowling Green and Ohio are next on the bubble, at 8-4. The loser of the Arkansas State-Middle Tennessee game will also be 8-4. Louisiana-Lafayette is 7-4 but has already accepted an invitation to the New Orleans Bowl. Since all the bowl-eligible teams from big conferences will get slotted into the conference's bowl tie-ins, it's almost a certainty that between one and three eligible teams from the MAC, WAC or Sun Belt are going to stay home. The players from those teams who were excited to represent their school in a rare bowl opportunity will have their hearts ripped out, so a 6-7 Georgia Tech team can play in a bowl this December.

Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
This George Tech bullshit is just another shining example of why I can't really bring myself to care about college football anymore. I still root for BG to do well, and I did enjoy watching the few games I got to see this year, but I have a real hard time CARING about it. The way the sport is run is complete and utter bullshit to ensure that the top level programs maintain their superiority on the field and continue taking in the largest pieces of the pie. The MAC, et al are left with scraps.
It's always been bad, but I think it's actually getting worse. Especially with the blind eye that they seem to turn as so many programs cheat. And now you've got teams like Miami imposing "self imposed" bowl bans this year in the hopes that the NCAA will go easier on them next year if they've got a better team? C'mon...
College football has become a total joke to me. Until there is a 16 team playoff that every conference gets a bid into I will find it tough to ever really get into this sham of a sport.

Report is out that San Jose St. has accepted a Military Bowl bid, likely the one vacated by Army.
