In a world of no actual rules when it comes to the NCAA I’ll take my chances that BGSU screwed something up. The last two transfers who’ve had to sit are McDonald and Robinson.

Hard to gauge this game. But while I have given Loeffler a pass on the QB, not putting fresh blood in by the middle of the third quarter is a bad sign regarding his obstinance on the situation and lack of willingness to try an obviously needed change. I still think this team can win 6 games and show significant progress.

How, how, how does this happen??? I hope for the sake of our athletic department this wasn't an error on BG's end, although I'm willing to bet it was. Several years ago Jake Suder had a "mix up" with his eligibility and lost his final season? Remember that one???? And now we have another F-up. This can't happen. There are people employed to handle these issues. I hope for BG's sake we aren't employing this kind of incompetence. Further, this is another example of why this OL mess should have been handled TWO years ago and not this past offseason as SL continue to try and justify - and it doesn't hold water. It didn't/doesn't make sense to anyone but him.

on Jakari Robinson
“We are hoping really soon. I’ve got faith in the NCAA and I think they’re going to do the right thing here, I really do. If there was a poster child for a waiver situation, it’s this one. This is why the waiver situation was created hands down. He is a 3.1 student, graduated, and came in second for offensive captain. He has a child, is married, and he has worked all year long to make sure he can provide for his family. Not to go into the specifics whatsoever, it was an error that no one can control. I am confident the NCAA will do absolutely the right thing. I really am and I hope soon.”

The National Communists Against Athletes aren't going to do the right thing...

The cynic in me suspects the error no one could control was an error that should have been controlled by the University's Athletic department

Kent State lost by 25.

Miami lost by 24.

Buffalo lost by 21.

Western Michigan lost by 22.

Ball State lost by 49.

Central Michigan lost by 14.

Akron went to OT against an FCS school. Eastern Michigan was pushed to the limit by an FCS school. Northern Illinois was pushed to the limit by an FCS school.

We’re going to be alright.

You left out that Ohio won as an underdog. If Matt McDonald is your quarterback you better hope the division REALLY stinks. Like end of Dave Clawson years stinks.

The offense was horrible...managed one scoring drive. McDonald should sit...we won't win with him running the offense. He made the same mistakes be did two seasons ago...he's shown zero growth. May as well give Orth a shot.

EKU is a must win...lose that game and your season is over

Not changing personnel at the start of the 4th not only obstinate, but really stupid. Kids dropping left and right, 9 IV’s at halftime, hottest game EVER plated there…. He never changes the personnel out in blowouts. He’s not smart.

We had a few blowouts last year and our backup qb threw 10 passes which you think would be different if the starter had an injury all season

I'm afraid we're going to waste a lot of defensive talent

I didn't get to see any of the game but purely box score scouting I find it tough to take a lot of positives. UCLA had a middle of fcs calibre defense last year and we managed 150 yds.

Special teams TDs are great. Defense can show positive things. And none of it matters if you're still out there throwing 3yds per attempt. Coaching or QB at this point I don't care... Fix it. This is 2022, and if you're not throwing the ball with success you can not win games.

My final takeaways after rewatching this morning.

Offense

Not many positives. OL was overmatched from the start. Running game had a few flashes but nothing spectacular. Play calling remains an issue, like running on 3rd and 4 against a bigger team. McDonald had five passes batted down thanks to his drawn out wind up. Sims is really the only consistent pass threat. He has excellent hands, good size, and above average speed at TE. I can see him getting a look at the next level. WR group needs someone to step up with Osborne being out. Disappointing that Lewis and Hilaire were pretty much much invisible. This felt way too much like last season which is highly concerning and frankly unacceptable.

Defense

Overall thought the group played pretty well. The wheels fell off after consecutive three and outs from the offense in the 2nd quarter. Leading tackler was Davion Daniels who is basically the third string free safety behind Anderson and Day. Lewis drew up plenty of successful blitz packages although a few didn't get home which led to a few big plays. Not overly concerned about this side of the ball unless there are significant injuries.

Special Teams

Blocked punt, made field goal are obvious positives. Sir only averaged 37 yards punting however and that is something that will need to improve as the season goes along. Overall this unit impressed and it's a credit to coach Bayer.

I generally agree with your analysis, but there is no “stepping up” in this offense. I’ve said it many times…. No one will be fed the ball. Occasionally, it will work and someone will have a productive, note worthy day. Since most plays are destined for a TE (or someone in the TE spot), the likely person appearing to be “stepping up” will be a TE.

I don’t see them winning 6 games with this offense and we know SL too stubborn to change it up and play anyone but his son McDonald at quarterback. Other than Mississippi State they won’t play as talented of a defense but it’s not like teams in the MAC can’t score.

I could excuse 160 yards of offense against Georgia, Alabama and a few others but UCLA defense is not that. They did zilch after it was 17-7. 2 of 16 on third downs!
