Re: NIU Game thread
I think that keeping your coach or ditching him has to do with 2 things. Momentum and the cost to ditch him. Clawson has lost momentum of this program and it if is cost effective we should ditch him.
Records over 1st 3 years
Blackney 27-6-2
Meyer 17-6 (2 years)
Brandon 26-11
Clawson 13-22

I'd be willing to bet that Hurley doesn't throw 21 career TDs, let alone in a single season.AyZiggy97 wrote:mc3022 wrote:Globe, maybe I'm just optimistic, but I don't think we've seen Schilz's ceiling. Granted these plays are few and far between, but I think there is a possibility he could be a solid MAC QB. Keep in mind he is just a RSO
Schilz stats:
'10: 10 Gms 2223 yds 60.7% completion 8 TD 14 INT
'11: 10 Gms 2556 yds 59.9% completion 21 TD 10 INT
Don't know if Hurley's better, but indications are that Schilz is improving.
I still think Schilz can play in this league. He'll never be a world beater, but if we can give him time and let him air it out he can move the chains. He'll likely never be good under pressure, and he doesn't have the accuracy for these 5 yard passes we keep throwing, but when he's allowed to push it downfield, he's got a big arm and can make the throws.

Stats might be good but if you watch him he is not.AyZiggy97 wrote:mc3022 wrote:Globe, maybe I'm just optimistic, but I don't think we've seen Schilz's ceiling. In regards to Hammb posts, we may be asking him to do something that is not natural to him, and opening it up more might fix that. Even if Hurley is not the option I think we owe it to him to find out now with 3 very good options waiting in the wings for next year.
Re: NIU Game thread
He had impressive stats the first 4 games, I would be more interested to see his stats the last 6 games.
Re: NIU Game thread
Through 4 games: 65.7% completion, 167 rating, 1,169 yards, 14 TDs (national leader), 4 picks.
Last 6: roughly 55%, 1,400 yards, 7 TDs, 6 picks.
Last 6: roughly 55%, 1,400 yards, 7 TDs, 6 picks.

1st four teams we paid was 46% winning percentage.BGGrad01 wrote:Through 4 games: 65.7% completion, 167 rating, 1,169 yards, 14 TDs (national leader), 4 picks.

Last five was a 56% winning percentage.
West Virginia broke this teams spirit. It has not been fun to watch since.

Re: NIU Game thread
This is probably not significant in the big scheme of things, but what is our problem with catching a damn punt? How many freaking turnovers do we have on special teams this season? It's incredible that in the 10th game of the season that we continue to see such miscues, some of which have been directly traceable to defeats (anybody remember last week's beauty that hit our guy in the foot that led to a Kent TD and the win?)
Ever since the days of Zach Charles...nothing, and I mean nothing makes my blood boil during a game more than seeing our guys fumble away punts. Those plays absolutely kill you.

last 6: 58.5% completion 7 TD 6 INT 231.1 ypg
first 4: 53.9% completion 14 TD 4 INT 292.2 ypg
Of course, Morgan State was in the first 4 games and West Virginia was n the last 6. So he's not fallen off a cliff or anything.
Some of his INTs leave me shaking my head. But he's not even through two years as a QB yet.

Re: NIU Game thread
It's time for Hurley. I've seen enough of Schilz for the year. The only time he can sustain a drive is when there is 1 minute left in the half ( Wyoming, Toledo, and tonight).
Re: NIU Game thread
The two times that Hurley threw the ball looked pathetic. Inaccurate, wobbly, no zip. The offense has been disappointing at best but putting Hurley in there will make it downright awful. Stick with Schilz and build for the future.

Re: NIU Game thread
Glad we got rid of the spread option and brought in the worst offensive coordinator in the history of Tennessee. Scoring 25+ points consistently was so boring to watch. You wanna fire Brandon, fine, but don't overhaul the offense that doesn't need overhauled. Clawson is overmatched at the 1A level.
On another note, why does the football team insist on dressing in the ugliest uniforms ever? All orange looks horrendous. Brown is one of the best looking uniform color options out there.

Agree on some of the things you say Drago, but on neither of these points!

Re: NIU Game thread
Again....Schilz was getting a heavy pass rush from four guys...four guys...that means he's running around (not his strong suit) with 7 guys back in coverage on 5-6 possible recievers. He isn't going to "look good" under those circumstances. The problem with the offense is still the OL.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: NIU Game thread
I get that we are young and all but we looked completely awful last night. Guys just running wide open everywhere on defense. 10 yard cushions. The line was bad but the QB made tons of bonehead decisions as well. It seemed like every play they ran from Ace Ventura to The Most Interesting Man in the world was the perfect call against us while we could not come up with one play on them. We get outschemed and the momentum of the program is going down. We are still young but I would atleast make feelers to coach Stud. I don't know a ton about him but it seems like striking while the iron is hot would not be a bad idea. OC from the national champion coming home to BG would be great. Would not mind giving Clawson another season if we could not get Stud but I think feelers should atleast be put out.
